More of Roger & Zapp showing that their music could survive!,

Ah! Finally the tunes that were good support tunes that didn't make much air time on the radio are here! Wise to utilize the rest of your material, although I would have liked to see Playin' Kinda Ruff on this CD. Who knows maybe it will make the z.a.p.p.f.a.n.s CD to be released later this year. This Compilation shows that Roger & Zapp's music has survived over the years. Also that his later tunes still provide flare and style for the younger generation. How many groups made records for over a 19 years? How many groups have music that has been sampled continuously throughout the past 19 years? This CD shows that Roger & Zapp were able to find ways to survive different musical era's and not only blend in but stand out as major players of the music industry. This is a must buy CD for any noteworthy funk collector. This was the Final Frontier for Roger Troutman and he did well! Rest in Paradise Roger and Keep on Bouncin' Zapp.

After I heard this cd, I was rather dissappointed. There a some classic cuts on this cd and some reworked covers, but there just isn't enough good material. Be sure to check out California Love and Chocolate City. If you are a fan of Zapp and Roger, pick it up. If this is your first taste, but All the Greatest Hits. R.I.P. Roger, you will be missed.

Roger Troutman could innovatively inspire grooves that would have you dancing before you even realized. But when he re-did a classic, you just knew it was going to be off the hook! Roger's vision, talent, enthusiasm are evident in such songs as "Thin line between love and hate", and "I will always love you". I will particularly direct your attention to "Easy" and "Livin' for the city" as Roger schools the music industry on what a remake is all about. But let's not forget about the originals. "Everybody get up" is reminiscent of the funkateer's energetic "So ruff so tuff" yet, with a refreshingly youthful hip-hop spin. Roger could hit you from any angle, and he was always eager to give you all he could. The jazzy, rhythmic "Play some blues" was a more cultural display of Roger's dirverse talents. Even though the live version of "Midnight hour" is a nice-to-have, I would have liked the original version included. Listening to this cd is a good starting point for those of you not familiar with the Zapp essence. For those of us already fans of Roger/Zapp clan, doesn't it make you miss him? My love to Roger, and may he rest in peace,- your adoring fan, Ian Christopher Epps.

I mean, those remakes of Stevie's "Living for The City" and "Easy" are great. It also has the underrated and underplayed "It Doesn't Really Matter" and "Get Up Everybody" and it puts good use to Shirley Murdock's fire-and-brimstone meets the Champaign Room vocals especially on "Chocolate City"--listeners must be warned, "California Love" here doesn't have Dre and 2pac, but that "doesn't really matter"...it is a good CD.

Another must-have album. Filled with tracks from "A Thin Line Between Love & Hate" & others. For any Zapp & Roger Troutman fan.
At first I didn't know what to make of the album but after a while, it really grew on me. Even the Christmas track, which was the oddest of all. The only drawback was the amount of tracks!! I know 4 or 5 could've still been squeezed-in!! Oh... & the original "California Love" isn't good, lyrically. |
