4.0 out of 5 stars For the price...
Very inexpensive item, so don't expect a professional quality instrument. It is, however, better quality than a toy instument. Good for someone who wants to learn without breaking the bank. A little adjustment on the tuning gears with a screwdriver helps the uke hold tuning. so, for the frice, I would recommend this uke as an acceptable starter instrument.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but you get what you pay for...
This is a good starter instrument in my opinion (I'm a beginner so I 'm not sure how much weight that statement carries). It's got a good tone, a nice look (although some of the paint is a bit sloppy) and is easy to tune. The gig bag it comes with is a cheap plastic/vinyl-ish material, and doesn't provide much protection, although it's nice to have anyway...

This is a good starter instrument in my opinion (I'm a beginner so I 'm not sure how much weight that statement carries). It's got a good tone, a nice look (although some of the paint is a bit sloppy) and is easy to tune. The gig bag it comes with is a cheap plastic/vinyl-ish material, and doesn't provide much protection, although it's nice to have anyway.

When recieved, the uke was a bit dusty, and needed some wiping down (especially the strings, because they seemed to have some kind of black grease on them in places, although this may vary as I ordered mine from Musician's Friend at the same price as Amazon). It wasn't anything that a soft cloth and a couple of minutes couldn't fix.

Although I've only had it for about a week, I've learned a couple of chords and I've begun to learn some simple songs. The action isn't very high (the spacing between the strings and the fret board) which makes for several days of playing before I started to feel some tenderness in my fingertips.

Overall, this is a neat thing to have, and fun to play. Don't expect it to be a toy, nor should you expect it to be a pro instrument. It's somewhere on the lower-middle side. The price can't be beat too!

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap is cheap, October 3, 2005
This review is from: Rogue Baritone Ukulele
The company is great to deal with and ships in a very timely fashion. The Ukulele was only $19.00 and looks great and is fine for a small child. It is made in China and the tuning pegs are of a very cheap metal. It will not hold a tune. You have to re-tune it after every song you play which make it not a good choice for someone who plans to accompaniny their singing with a Ukulele. I recommend the company but suggest paying a little more money and getting a better Ukulele.

1.0 out of 5 stars you get what you pay for, March 18, 2006

I bought this instrument aware of some of its faults. I'm used to new stringed instruments not holding its tune, but have never seen it untune right before my eyes. Stretching the strings didn't help at all. After giving up, I put it back in the included bag, figuring it would take a while until it could work as intended. A couple of hours later I heard it untune in the bag and then a bag; the bridge flew off. I guess that I'll get around to fixing her one day, and to be quite honest, I had her even less than that, but I'm really thinking of returning her despite the nice rich barritone sound I briefly heard before she literally flew apart.

This is an inexpensive baritone ukulele and as such there is something to be desired as far as quality. But this is a playable instrument and definitely worth the price if you don't expect perfection and just want to experiment with a ukulele.

The action (distance from strings to fretboard) is a little high so it is a little tough on your fingers. But things like that are to be expected for the price.

Unlike the reviewers that say it doesn't hold itself in tune, I found that it just needed to relax in. After a couple weeks it was fine. Nylon strings ALWAYS take time to stretch.

Do not buy this Uke if you are a serious uke player and want a higher quality instrument for years to come.

If you don't know if you will continue with it and you just want to experiment then it will make a great fly-swatter if you give it up for harmonica. Although... as a fly-swatter it is rather expensive. :-P

2.0 out of 5 stars Too cheap -- find another model, December 1, 2008
This review is from: Rogue Baritone Ukulele
My short relationship with a Rogue baritone uke included: a) string buzz that could not be fixed and b) tuning machines that break right in your hand. I suggest you save your money and buy something a bit more expensive, perhaps a Lanikai baritone. Or a Fortune if you can find one.

its perfectly priced for someone interested in at least trying this instrument.
it sounds fine its not the best by any means. its not a toy its playable.

that being said. its not very well painted it might just be the one i received but it appeared to be spray painted it even has paint on the frets and on the bridge.
thats not a major problem by any means. and i still say go for it buy one if you are interested in the instrument.

4/5 :] comes with a case too its neat!

i just tuned it to the highest four strings of a guitar dgbe

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price, June 27, 2009
This review is from: Rogue Baritone Ukulele
I bought mine from Musicians Friend, in fact I went to their warehouse and handled it before buying. I bought the only one I saw, didn't have to pick and choose. I did have a plan when I picked it.

I'd read the reviews, so I knew what to expect. I took it home, took off the strings and tightened the tuners. Only one was loose. I saw that it was pretty well made and I knew Rogue had to scrimp somewhere, other than crappy strings, and I found it right where I looked. A tenor uke has a scale of 16" to 18". This baritone has a scale of only 19". It's little. I put tenor strings on it and tuned it as such. Now, I don't have a small baritone, I have a big tenor.

It seems well constructed, good resonance, nice tone. The frets could be smoother around the edges, but it's a $30 instrument. Mine was a good buy.
