5.0 out of 5 stars Really great for the price
Honestly, I have to agree with all other reviewers. I thought I should comment here since I've actually played the guitar for a few weeks, and it's still wonderful. Holds a tune wonderfully, comes with the Martin strings which sound great, and as a starter guitar you can't get anything better. So it's not a name brand; who cares! All that matters is the sound quality,...

I got this guitar as a birthday present, I was suprised on how it sounds, when I strummed it it was nice and smooth. But when I was looking at it, the nut was chipped, but luckily not enought for the string to pop out. I was also sad that the wood was thin, and not as sturdy as my friends. But it sounded nice, and I had a good time with it.

For $60, all I can say is Wow.

I think the best part was taking the guitar out of its box. The smell of its new paint and glossy finish made me smile. This has everything one can want out of a starter or traveling guitar. In addition to the specifications and features listed in the product description above, the guitar looks nice and holds its tune very well. When you put it in your lap you can tell that the guitar was built well and is pretty sturdy. I actually have no quibbles with it (considering it was only $60).

I was debating whether to buy this Rogue or the Washburn D100, but after reading the reviews and ratings at Musicians Friend, the two are basically ranked the same despite their $40 difference and brand name reputation. You honestly can't go wrong with either one, but if you want to save $40, go with the Rogue.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was amazed at how this guitar sounded when I picked it up., September 15, 2005
This review is from: Rogue RA-100D Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Natural
My sister told me a few months ago that she bought a cheap Rogue acoustic off amazon.com for $50. She told me that it was labelled as a really nice guitar and definitely well well well worth it for the price. I couldn't agree with her more. This guitar kicks ass for its price! It sounds realy good and sounds better than my more expensive acoustic guitars that I have at home (Yamaha C-340 and C-210)... all I have to say is that if you want a great sounding guitar for a steal, grab this guitar, you won't regret it. I played the black one but I'm sure the tone is the same on this one as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable bargain, August 5, 2005
This review is from: Rogue RA-100D Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Natural
This guitar has everything that is expected from a guitar: the classic look, steel strings, full sized, and accessible. The price is the major selling point, and for that price, you get a guitar that is very adequate for a beginner guitarist. The finish is not perfect, and there are some minor cosmetic issues which hint at it being not overly expensive.

Bottomline, great sound, greate price, and enough for someone who is interested but not all that serious about guitars. It works.

I bought this guitar when it was on sale for $40 because I figured it wasn't much to risk, and none of my serious guitar playing friends can believe it. It sounds beautiful and stays tuned forever. Couldn't be happier with it - highly recommend!

You can't ask for a better sounding guitar than this one at that price. The guitar made it to Southwest Asia without a scratch and everyone at our site plays it at least once per day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guitar for the price, modification makes it even better!, February 1, 2008

This is my first acoustic guitar. I was playing on a Greg Bennett guitar that belonged to someone else before purchasing this. Initially, the Rogue could not come close to the G.B. But after some modification, it is nearly as good as that $200 guitar. Out of the box, I was disappointed. The "Martin" strings are horrible, as someone else stated. The action (distance you have to press string down to touch fretboard) is very high and will make any newbie's fingers hurt quite badly in the beginning. I found the fit and finish to be satisfactory; had some blemish on the top, and not perfect looking by any means but for my purposes it is fine. Not bad looking at all.

1) Sanded down the saddle about 3/16", and used needle filers to get the nut down for each string. After that, the action was PERFECT!! But be careful doing this, go a bit at a time, and recheck. Both of these things can be done w/ strings still on, just loosen them up a lot. There are online tutorials regarding this: "adjusting action, nut, saddle, etc."

2) Changed strings to Martin SP light acoustics. Made a very big improvement. Don't forget to rub in a generous amount of olive oil on the fretboard wood when you change the strings. Combined w/ a much lower action, this guitar is a joy to play and sounds very good for the price. I don't plan on buying another acoustic at this time. I have been playing for 2 months every day and it stays in tune well, maybe needs tuning after an hour or so but won't be off by much, if any.

Overall, very good guitar if you just put a bit of work into it. And the value can't be beat. I gave 4 stars just b/c I had to modify the nut and saddle to enhance playability. It took me about 2 hours of carefully working as to avoid over filing the nut or saddle. But for the price, the work is worth it. And you learn a little more about guitar mechanics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a beginner!, April 20, 2005
This review is from: Rogue RA-100D Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Natural
This is a good guitar at a great price. I bought it to develop my childrens' interest in music and guitar.

I have never played guitar but I have been a musician for 40 years. I can tell you that it sounds great. It looks great.

For this price, it doesn't matter if the kids are a little rough on it. I'm glad that I bought two and I would gladly buy another.
