Early "talking" western,

This review is from: Rogue of the Rio Grande (DVD)
Specialists in niche market material such as vintage programmers and TV shows, Pennsylvania-based ALPHA VIDEO is owned by Jerry Greene, founder of Collectable Records. Quality of their unrestored movie transfers varies from fair to good, based on condition of source material stock (often old 16mm broadcast prints). The only extras provided are a catalog insert and DVD-accessible title list.
Total time on their edition of ROGUE OF THE RIO GRANDE is one-hour. This includes a spoof trailer for a non-existent film entitled "Then Came the Yawn," and a clip of a vaudevillian who makes music with his hands. "Rogue..." was directed by Spencer Gordon Bennett, a prolific specialist in 'B' unit western, sci-fi and high seas programmers. He also directed the two most popular movie serials of all time, SUPERMAN (1948) and ATOM MAN VS. SUPERMAN (1950). In Myrna Loy's first talkie, the bandito El Malo (Bohr), a sort of Mexican Robin Hood, is annoyed by a WANTED poster that skews his handsome face and offers only 1K for his capture. Plans for revenge on the town's sheriff (Miller) are set aside when El Malo visits a local cantina and sees his old flame, Carmita (Loy) is a dancer there. Their renewed friendship upsets Carmita's dance partner/current boyfriend (Burt), who is mortified when El Malo cuts in on their tango. The spurned boyfriend waits for a chance to make the outlaw pay...with his life. An opportunity to strike comes when El Malo witnesses from afar a stagecoach robbery and discovers that one of the three men responsible is the town's mayor, Seth Landport (Morgan). El Malo tells Landport to meet him later that night at the cantina. This is when the still-angry boyfriend makes his move... Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 IMDb viewer poll rating. (4.3) Rogue of the Rio Grande (1930)- Myrna Loy/José Bohr/Walter Miller/Carmelita Geraghty/Gene Morgan/Raymond Hatton/Florence Dudley/William P. Burt

It's a good movie and shows the beginning skills of Myrna Loy in her first talking movies.
