This review is from: Rogue Starter Acoustic Guitar (Blue Burst)
I purchased this guitar as a Christmas gift for my 8 year old son. Upon receiving the guitar, I tested it out (I have played for 30+ years, and have owned several guitars including a 1976 Gibson Les Paul) and was disappointed with the craftsmanship. I ended up with cuts on my left hand from the unfinished frets. I spent 1+ hours filing the frets smooth (a delicate operation if you wish to avoid disturbing the finish on the neck). Otherwise the crafstmanship was okay.
I was also disappointed with the sound quality (dull and flat). I know it was a $50 guitar! I also purchased a Rogue RA-100D Dreadnought guitar for my older son, and the sound quality of that guitar was lightyears better than this starter guitar (the cost of the RA-100D was about $80). I would recommend spending the extra $30. I should point out that the RA-100D also required 1+ hours of fret filing, as the condition was substantially the same for both guitars. I would also recommend the Yamaha JR-1 3/4 scale accustic guitar at $119 over this one. The craftsmanship of the Yamaha JR-1 was excellent, and the sound was comparable to the Rogue RA-100D. My opinion is that for new accoustic guitars below about $80, the quality drops off significantly. I would only recommend this guitar to the most price conscious buyer with reduced quality expectations. I would highly recommend that anyone who purchases this product for a child to check the frets before handing it to the child. I give this guitar 3 stars only because of the low price.

This is a beautiful guitar. We purchased the blueburst and the finish is gorgeous. The sound is excellent. This is by far an exceptional quitar for this price. IT IS, HOWEVER, FULL-SIZE and not smaller bodied for kids, as the description states (unless they sent us the wrong one, but they haven't responded to our inquiry). Don't buy it for a small child, but DEFINATELY buy it for anyone capable of the full size body. You will need to purchase a guitar case or a guitar wall hanger to protect this gorgeous piece of art.

Good Guitar For the Price,

I was looking for a good starter guitar for a friend and happened on this Rogue model. Musician's Friend shipped this package very quickly (especially given it was so close to Christmas).
The body is very attactive and without any defects. It is, as the product description indicates, a smaller guitar. The difference isn't so much in the body, which is a touch smaller, but in the neck, which is noticable shorter, making it a good choice for smaller hands. But while it's a smaller than standard guitar, it's not a child's model. My only complaint, and it's minor, is about the strings. They're tinny and not very high quality. This is solved by simply restringing the guitar with new strings. For the money, this is a solid product and a great starter instrument.
