Product Description

Rogue is a Souther G.I.; a genetically engineered super-soldier, designed to fight against the Nort Republic on the poisoned planet of Nu Earth. Each G.I has a ‘biochip’ implanted, which continually records their persona and training so that upon death they can be returned to base and recloned. Rogue’s closest buddies, Helm, Gunnar and Bagman die in their first action, betrayed by a Souther General, during what became known as the Quartz Zone Massacre. Their biochips were installed into Rogue’s Helmet, Rifle and Backpack. They now have control over their respective equipment, providing Rogue with a four-man combat team against the Norts. With Rogue, now the sole survivor of the massacre, his overall objective is simple – find and kill the Traitor General who betrayed the G.I’s! The game fully utilizes the Wiimote interface to provide an immersive gameplay experience with features such as a ‘Twist’ zoom sniper mode. A variety of powerful weapons can be used as well as additional firepower provided by Rogue’s equipment. Gunnar provides weapon modification, Bagman can deploy mines to provide cover, and Helm can create a controllable holographic projection of Rogue to confuse enemies in case of an ambush. The game combines aspects of stealth, cover, and run-n-gun gameplay into 13 action packed single player environments. There is also a fully featured multiplayer mode allowing up to 4 players to compete in a split-screen co-op play. Missions extend up to four kilometres and are designed to allow the player to explore their environment, scope out the enemy and find the best path for their style of attack.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but flawed December 27, 2009
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I had been looking forward to getting this title for the Wii. It was released months earlier in Europe, and was recently released in the United States for the Wii. This game is a port from the PS2/Xbox, so for those who have the title on that system, this probably is not worth a purchase. Rogue Trooper is a "3rd person shooter" which attempts to utilize the Wiimote motion controls. This presents the first flaw of the game however. While turning Rogue is relatively easy (pointing the Wiimote to either edge of the screen) and moving him is straightforward as well (the joystick on the nunchuck), a few of the combat-oriented controls are sketchy. First, grenade throwing relies on flicking the nunchuck, and aiming grenades relies on tilting the nunchuck upwards -- doing this halts your characters movement and gives you a highlighted arc showing the path your grenade will take through the air. Needless to say, unintentionally throwing grenades in tight quarters, or unintentionally aiming grenade trajectories in the middle of a heated fire-fight is annoying. Also, when in sniper mode, twisting the Wiimote is supposed to allow one to zoom in or out, but it can be dodgy and does not always seem to work. I should mention that you can adjust the sensitivity of your Wiimote, so you can adjust how quickly Rogue will turn when you point to the edges of the screen, which is a nice feature. Unfortunately, they did not provide this option for the nunchuck. The graphics are good. They're not on par with Dead Space Extraction but they can hold their own. There are a lot of additional background segments which help move the story along nicely, and the voice acting is very well done. Read more ›

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid Wii 3rd Person Shooter May 9, 2010
Verified Purchase
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
This is a straight port of the PC/PS2 title so if you've played either you will not find anything new.

The Wiimote works fine for this 3rd person shooter. If you play on the Wii-you are already accustom to the Wii controllers and will find they translate perfectly well.

The graphics are better than the PS2 and the sound is almost identical.

This may be the only pure 3rd person shooter available for the Wii with a decent scifi story, cover system and interesting postmortem squadmate tactics.

It is certainly worth adding to one's collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's no RE4.... May 24, 2011

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
First off, this is a great game that works well with the Wii. The controls are very simple to learn, and the story is great too. I bought mine used at GameStop and it didn't have the instruction booklet but I still learned the controls easily. It even gives you hints during the first few missions to help you learn them. The missions are awesome, as are the environments they take place in. The are a number of different weapons to use and upgrade and they each have their own unique specialness. The graphics are great for a Wii game, and if you like third person shooters, then I have to put this right up there next to Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition.

I think the only issue I have with this game, is that you cannot save until the mission is over. Some of the missions wound up taking me about an hour to complete, so I would have to wait until then to stop playing and save. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to play for an hour and just want to get a quick 30 minutes in. I do take my time and try to play as safe as possible and I also try to collect everything. It does have checkpoints every so often, so if you die, you don't have to reply alot - which is nice. But with that said, the game moves along well and is fun to play.

If you like RE4, then I would definitely check this out. It's fun, cheap, and can be challenging at times - even on easy. I have played all COD games, Star Wars The Force Unleashed, Cursed Mountain, Dead Space Extraction, Dead Rising Shop Till You Drop, GoldenEye, Quantum Of Solace, Red Steel, Red Steel 2, The Conduit, and No More Heroes. So if you like some/all of these games, then there is a good chance you will like this too. This game does not get the props it is due and not many people have heard of this game. So if you are a Wii gamer like I am, you need pick this up. You shouldn't be disappointed. Enjoy!!
