good espionage, bad military ops,
This review is from: Rogue Warrior: Designation Gold (Audio Cassette)
Demo Dick has the makings of a good plot here, and a slammin' opening situation - Dick helping the Russians? - but, alas, downhill from there. Dick, you write well about spec-ops and the warrior mentality. But enough already with fictions about "every politician is a greedy traitor", and "every soldier or sailor not in spec-ops is a doofus who knoweth not war". And why has the great leader of mench written a plot in which he works almost entirely without the Team? Dick, keep the goons with you at all times - it's a better story than "Well, there I was ... alone and unarmed, when suddenly ...". Alone, Dick spys on Russians, Israelis, French, US Admirals, US Embassies, ad nauseum. Keep writing them, I'll keep reading them, in hopes thou returneth to thy old ways.

Another good book but starting to stray from the realm,
This review is from: Designation Gold (Rogue Warrior) (Mass Market Paperback)
Interesting as specwar stories go but starts to lose some appeal as a one man band. As a 23 year ex-navy type I find it personally satisfying when he screws with the Navy system and some of its special characters (ala Pinky). Reel the story in a tad and work more with the team and we edge a little closer to removing the distinction between a fiction and non-fiction. Doing so would make for a better read.

Marcinko delivers yet again,
By "navcowboy" (Houlka, MS United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Designation Gold (Rogue Warrior) (Mass Market Paperback)
Well folks what can be said about Mr. Marcinko that hasn't been said a million times already. What you have here is a man who did his time with the Navy, and a true patriot. Unlike his first book, these for the most part, are fictional stories. However they are being told from the point of view of the warrior that is carrying out orders that mean nothing to the people that issue them. As a member of the military (Navy) I know many of you may feel my opinion is biased and I suppose it is. Yet even for non military members The Rogue Warrior series is a excellent way to enlighten yourself on what those select few do day after day.
