4.0 out of 5 stars good espionage, bad military ops
Demo Dick has the makings of a good plot here, and a slammin' opening situation - Dick helping the Russians? - but, alas, downhill from there. Dick, you write well about spec-ops and the warrior mentality. But enough already with fictions about "every politician is a greedy traitor", and "every soldier or sailor not in spec-ops is a doofus who knoweth not...

OK. Enough Dickie. The book was so boring, I did not even finish it. The only thing different from the past books is the location. Same characters, same plot, same amount of ammunition. Come on Dickie, expand your horizons some. This is comic book material. Doom on you for downplaying to your readers. At least Red Cell was believeable.

Dick, you write well about spec-ops and the warrior mentality. But enough already with fictions about "every politician is a greedy traitor", and "every soldier or sailor not in spec-ops is a doofus who knoweth not war". And why has the great leader of mench written a plot in which he works almost entirely without the Team? Dick, keep the goons with you at all times - it's a better story than "Well, there I was ... alone and unarmed, when suddenly ...". Alone, Dick spys on Russians, Israelis, French, US Admirals, US Embassies, ad nauseum. Keep writing them, I'll keep reading them, in hopes thou returneth to thy old ways.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good book but starting to stray from the realm, March 25, 1998
Interesting as specwar stories go but starts to lose some appeal as a one man band. As a 23 year ex-navy type I find it personally satisfying when he screws with the Navy system and some of its special characters (ala Pinky). Reel the story in a tad and work more with the team and we edge a little closer to removing the distinction between a fiction and non-fiction. Doing so would make for a better read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marcinko delivers yet again, October 26, 2003
By
"navcowboy" (Houlka, MS United States) - See all my reviews
Well folks what can be said about Mr. Marcinko that hasn't been said a million times already. What you have here is a man who did his time with the Navy, and a true patriot. Unlike his first book, these for the most part, are fictional stories. However they are being told from the point of view of the warrior that is carrying out orders that mean nothing to the people that issue them.

As a member of the military (Navy) I know many of you may feel my opinion is biased and I suppose it is. Yet even for non military members The Rogue Warrior series is a excellent way to enlighten yourself on what those select few do day after day.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Exciting Book!, June 22, 2001

(REAL NAME)
This book proved to be another nonstop action book by our favorite author Richard Marcinko. He once again used his knowledge of weapons to make the book more believable. You are also able to take a tour of the world thanks to your author. The action begins in Russia and ends up in The Middle East. In between the many travels you have plenty of shooting action. You have the remnants of Seal Team 6 against the forces of evil.Like I said. Nonstop action from page to page. This is a very good

book to read.It will give you a good insight into the world of Dick Marcinko.

A good book. Very detailed, although graphic and profane. Hooyah! Dickie is a really strange but effective SpecWarrior. It must have been his hardcoreness that got him booted.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story lousy Kindle formatting, December 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I admit I'm a huge Marcinko fan. This is one of my favorite stories, so I was looking forward to re-reading it on my Kindle. The story is as good as I recall, I loved the international travel as he hopped between Russia, France, and Israel. The sneak and peek as he broke into the villains office in Paris is a classic. I appreciated that even when his team was taken away he still managed to form a new, small team to take care of business. Teamwork!

I have to give it a ding due to the Kindle formatting. Marcinko ought to find whoever converted this to the Kindle and layout some serious Rogue justice on them. The book was filled with mis-spellings, and not just a few. I lost count before I was even a third of the way into the book. I could tell a lot of these were due to OCR translations, for example one characters name of Allen was routinely misspelled as A11en (ones instead of L's).

None of the footnotes had links to them, there was just a clump of footnotes at the end of each chapter and you had no clue what text it linked to.

A great book, I wouldn't let the formatting issues stop you from getting it, just be prepared to be annoyed on occasion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing!, October 26, 2000
By
This volume of the Rogue Warrior series starts out interesting enough, but overall, this was a major disappointment. I had to struggle through most of this book. You are still along for the ride at the beginning as ol' Demo Dick and company work to take down a band of terrorists holding an airliner full of hostages. Unfortunately, Capt. Dick is royally screwed shortly within the next chapter or two. From there, that's when the interest level begins to wane. Sure, you share in Demo Dick's outrage, but the intensity level just isn't there from then on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Designation Gold (Rogue Warrior Series), November 29, 1999

Very good story, much better the second time I read it. That was right after reading something in the news about some terrorist getting his head blown off by a cell phone...
