4.0 out of 5 stars NOT that bad
WOW, I was really surprised by the extremely low rating on this game? True it is not in the class of most fps, like CoD, Battlefield, Black Ops, etc. but still I had a lot of fun with it! I have played ALL of the major FPS games CoD and BF since the mid 1990's.

To say it was only 2-3 hours of game play was NOT my experience. I bought it over a year ago so I do...

There are problems supporting graphic cards...The audio sounds like separate from the game. When the main character is talking, sounds like he's in a recording room. Not in the game. The targeting is somehow broken. You can put whole clip of bullets into someone and he just perfectly standing there. AI is super stupid. Nothing good about this game I'd say. I'd rather just give the money to my sister and let her buy clothes...

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible game, deeply regret purchasing!, December 17, 2009

Awful, poor quality, took 2 1/2 hours to complete. I purchased from Steam, it cost $49. I feel cheated out of the cash and it's unusual for me to give an opinion online, but please be warned everyone, this is a stinker.

I enjoyed Richard Marcinko's 1st few books greatly and used to consider Bathesda a name to trust for quality games. Now I'll always wait to see reviews 1st.

I like the mans' books, and I was hoping a game with his name on it(not to mention one that had been delayed as much)would give a person half a challenge. Unless you like to hear Richard Marcinko swear incessantly and like to throw your money at a fairly crappy shooter, I would save it to take your family to a movie (if you have a family of 3 or less anymore the way a day at the movies costs anymore)

Sorry Dick, but you goat f***** us with this one............

I bought it over a year ago so I do not remember exactly how much game time I got out of the S.P. but it took 2-3 hours each for 2-3 evenings of play time, so a total of about 8-10 hours. I recently bought and played BF3 and in the SP mode it was ONLY 6 hours of play time BUT the price is still $50-$60. I also recently bought and played Medal of Honor (an absolutely GREAT game, the most historically accurate, I give it 5*), and the play time on it's SP was only 7-8 hours!

ALL of the PROBLEMS outlined about the BAD weapons and bad graphics did not happen to me. I would say its more of an old style game of 5-6 years ago but still it IS a good game.

I usually only play SP since multiplaying had been RUINED by the cheaters. Therefore, to get the most out of a game I play through ALL 3 or 4 levels, Recruit, Med, and Veteran, etc. And then leave it for a few months and come back for a little side play. I did that with Rogue Warrior too.

I had NO problems with Rogue Warrior in regards to installation or compatibility problems with graphic cards or NOTHING! And I installed it on two computers: my XP when I first got it (a Pentium 4, 3GB Ram, don't' remember the graphic card but it was an older nVidia), and then I installed it on my new machine an i5, 8GB Ram and nVidia GTS 450 with 1GB Ram.

BF3 was really disappointing. It is beautiful, the MOST REALISTIC graphics of ANY game I have ever seen. However, we buy games to PLAY, right. If it looks good that is a side benefit. BF3 play is good, the graphics is AWESOME, but SP play time TOO SHORT. Rogue Warrior is 1.5 to 2 times longer than BF3, so I got FOUR TIMES the game for the amount of MONEY that I had to spend ($15-$20).

I installed BF3 9 days ago and had played through ALL THREE levels within a week, phooey! Same with Medal of Honor, which I downloaded through Amazon.com and the download worked without a hitch. So I recently did another game download. also without a hitch. So if you are concerned about doing the 'Download" a game thing, I did TWO without any problems.

Years ago the U.S. Army came out with a game called, 'America's Army', that was given away free to generate interest in some gamers playing REAL Army, REAL war and REAL shooting (I am an OLD MAN, ex-military, retired cop and swat team member so I KNOW of what I speak). The game was awesome for its day, but 3 years ago they decided to UPDATE it and come out with a NEW version. I played the beta and HATED it. It required a high end PC (way to high for its day), which made it laggy, but what really RUINED the game was its GAME PLAY.

I and other, pre-release and beta players, warned them but they would not listen. I even said, "This will kill the game!". Like I said earlier - IT IS about THE PLAY - RIGHT, not so much about looks. Looks are for WOMEN. They completely changed the looks (OK, I don't care), but they also changed ALL of the controls, and everything, so that it was NOT even the same game.

A great community grew up behind America's Army, with clans literally ALL OVER THE WORLD. I joined a clan and we had members from 7 different countries. However, the new game was TOTALLY rejected by this community, because it was unplayable, so that sadly it DIED an early death.

I still play Rogue Warrior and America's Army on occasion. America's Army (AA for short) still has 170 servers available online, and as of yesterday (Sat. 12/10/11) it had 370 guys playing, mostly from Europe.

AA is still available for FREE. IF I can find a good link to it I will try posting it but do a Google search for "AA Army" (AA3 is the new - not so good version.

HOWEVER, IF you can get Rogue Warrior for under $10 go for it (available NOW 12/18/11 for only .50 CENTS thru Amazon). I paid $15 or $20, and would do it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, do not buy!, August 27, 2011
By

This review is from: Rogue Warrior (Video Game)
I read all the reviews and thought it couldn't be that bad. It is. The main problem is that the graphics are poorly optimized, so I can't play it at full resolution like I can every other game. I have an older computer but I can still play Doom 3 on max everything, and it has more advanced visuals, so this game should work. It doesn't, and it's really terrible. The slow graphics and poor quality, even when set on lowest resolution possible, make it that much more difficult to actually play the game. Speaking of the actual game, I like the radar feature and finishing moves, but otherwise it's terrible in every respect. Aiming and bullet spread are the worst part; in real life I can't see myself emptying a clip at someone and have them still standing, not to mention taking multiple hits. Frankly I prefer Counter-Strike. At least I only spent $20 on this. Do yourself a favor, spend $20 on two copies of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas and Vegas 2, or sack up and buy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Stick with Dick Marcinko's books and leave the video games to other authors.

2.0 out of 5 stars The expansion pack for the ho-hum game that never was, October 4, 2010
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rogue Warrior (Video Game)
"Rogue Warrior" is one of those games that people love to hate, and not without reason. I don't rate it as bad as some other people as it is playable and can pretty much do what it claims, just it's not aiming for very much. (And if people want to think of truly bad, my picks would be Daikatana and the forgotten Freedom Soldier 3D).

The list of problems with the game is long, but I'll try to keep to the juicy points:

It's one of the shortest games I've ever played, 2-3 hours tops, which makes it feel more like an expansion pack.

Common complaints are poor quality graphics, inaccurate weapons and a poor hit register (sometimes you hit, sometimes you don't, even point blank), and sticky/buggy controls. I think the console versions must be worse in that respect as I ran into these problems but they weren't insurmountable.

What I did find annoying was enemies materializing out of nowhere and when hit sometimes they'd fall dead, sometimes they'd ragdoll, other times they'd fly all over in a kinematic get down dance.

The graphics aren't real bad, but easily 4-5 years behind the times.

I noticed close in and sniper shots worked okay, but if you're shooting guys in another room you hadn't entered but could see through the door it was like shooting blanks.

The "silent kills" are silly. They obviously wanted you to use them as it's way too easy to sneak up behind enemies. But rather than home in for the kill like Agent 47 from Hitman, with a choice of ways to dispatch the bad guy, you just press the action button and one of several scripted sequences plays out.

The levels are very linear and are almost like a throwback to Quake II in playing style. You have to plant bombs/punch buttons/throw switches as your goals, otherwise shoot anything that moves.

You start out in North Korea and end up in the USSR, but are still using North Korean weapons............go figure. And no matter what you pick up along the way, each level you begin over with a silenced pistol and an MP5.

The biggest disappoint, however, is the character of Marcinko. Dick Marcinko the man is the real deal when it comes to special ops, and a good fictional story could have been made about his life. Instead we get something more like a comic book. Our hero breaks all the rules and is a one man army. He needs no one, and can traverse miles of enemy countryside to appear at just the right place and time. He singlehandedly destroys military bases and missile silos, and that mouth! He was voiced by Mickey Rourke in a non-stop four letter word barrage of profanity that can wither an enemy as well as bullets.

Yes, military guys do cuss and swear, but this goes into overkill territory. The character is so overblown I'm surprised he doesn't ride a Harley on his exploits through Soviet territory.

In the end I don't loathe the game as much as other people do mainly because it is a distraction for a few short hours, but that doesn't make it worth getting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bab bad and misleading, December 9, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rogue Warrior (Video Game)
UPDATED REVIEW:
I had been reading about a Rogue Warrior game for years and when I saw the game was finally released and it was released through Bethesda works, I grabbed it fast. As soon as I found out it was a STEAM game, I refused to even install it (for about 2 weeks). I finally decided to install it because I read somewhere that you can install only a single player-offline version and that was ok with me. It is true. You can intall it with all the multiplayer software and have to register it through STEAM or you can install the offline version that does not require STEAM. LOOK! STEAM got something right!
I know, "Was the game any good?". Just trying to play through the first mission, I was sickened by the bugs and poor controls. While trying to inch my way to a corner by pressing the "W" key 1-2 times, the game would autorun my character out into the open getting me shot. Even though I wasn't pressing any buttons, it would randomly decide to "stick" that key "active". For example: Strafing left I would let go of the "A" key wanting to stop near cover, only to have my character continue to run left getting me shot yet again.
Also, it had problems recognizing I even pressed keys sometimes. I would press the "N" key 3 times before the game recognized I wanted to put my nightvision goggles on.
I switched keyboards and had the same problem. It's the game, not my hardware.
Graphics: Looked great but even though I lowered the spec's (textures, motion blur, etc) it still had a bad delay in trying to render the environment just from me looking around with my mouse. I have a 9800gt video card so I should not have these problems.
AI: Enemy AI is random as well. A guy will be 5 ft in front of you and not know you're there and then a guy all the way across a courtyard will open fire on you while you're crouched and concealed.
Many people are upset by the language in the game. I have to be the devils advocate here. With almost 20 yrs Military service, talk like this in a combat/deployed area is commonplace. Many Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and Airman do talk like this when in combat zones. The flipside is, no idiot (definately not a SEAL) is going to yell insults while in a covert mission as you see in this game. THAT was fake and was just simply overdone in this game.
All in all, the game LOOKS great but there is no way I will recomend it to ANYONE. I hope it is better on the consoles for the Xbox and PS3 players.
