5.0 out of 5 stars Waves of Suspense, Tides of Romance
Miss Maureen Miller's novel is very well written, flows smoothly over the page and takes place in the exotic Hawaiian Islands. 3.0 out of 5 stars hmm, not my favorite, for sure...but okay.
I enjoyed the first half of the book, but the second half was pretty difficult.
I don't know if the writing changed, or if I just started noticing it, but the descriptions were just over the top for me. Also, there were some misused words, like "incite" for "insight". I don't think there was a single noun that was left alone. It became painful. Too bad,...

Miss Maureen Miller's novel is very well written, flows smoothly over the page and takes place in the exotic Hawaiian Islands. The sun, sand and suspense blend perfectly to create a story that keeps up the reader's interest and has them wanting to hear more from this talented author. Both Nick and Briana have ghosts from the past to overcome, but they do it in style as the story of unexpectedly anomalous waves threatening the pristine Hawaiian leeward beaches unfolds, bringing them together as they both attempt to solve the mystery. I give a solid 5 stars for an entertaining read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wave of joy to read!, April 12, 2010
This review is from: Rogue Wave (Paperback)
A huge fan of Ms. Miller's other works, I'm excited to say that Rogue Wave hooked me just as quickly and just as deeply.
Nick and Briana are characters that attract the reader and make you want to turn each page with drawn breath. It's thrilling, touching, romantic and everything that will make you go back and read it again.
She makes you see the scenery described and at times you will smell the water, feel the breeze.
This is another wonderful book by this author.

Thoroughly enjoyed every page of this book just as I did with her previous 2 books. The characters were intriguing from the beginning with troubled pasts and a possible electrifying future.
I certainly recommend this book for a good, easy read. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, April 8, 2010

Nick McCord and Briana Holt certainly make waves in Rouge Wave. As they must join forces to discover the truth, they each also must face problems from their own pasts.

While a different feel from her other book, Victory Cove, this one offers the reader a change in scenery as this story takes readers to Hawaii. It was exciting with wonderfully strong characters and never a dull moment.

Words melt across the pages like butter in this romantic suspense. The writing is clear and interesting, never once was there a desire to skip a sentence, let alone an entire page. The characters have the most smug, yet playful relationship. Troubled pasts and the possiblity of an electrifyng futre keep the story intriguing. A very enjoyable read if you are a fan of the genre.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Trip To Hawaii, August 10, 2010

I enjoyed this book on several levels. First, the unusual Hawaii setting was a pleasant change from the standards of mainline romantic fare. Miller also did a good job of maintaining her sexual tension and pushing the plot along. Rather than offering choppy moments of action and then stopping to remind us it's a romance, she did a good job of weaving the two elements. Her leads, Briana the business woman and Nick the ecologist, were well drawn and suitably romance-novel friendly. They ultimately brought out the best in each other, which is what makes a romance satisfying. The twists of the plot were interesting enough to keep the reader engaged, although toward the end the heroine perhaps pushed the limits of good sense. But this is a romance, after all. All in all, I enjoyed Briana and Nick and was happy when they got their HEA. Miller's writing style was professional and her deft use of description painted a lovely picture of paradise.

Rogue Wave is a well written romantic suspense story that grabbed my attention from the beginning. I really liked how Briana and Nick each had tragic issues to overcome from their past before they can trust each other for a future together. The author does a great job detailing their inner struggles and emotions as well as realistic dialogue and fantastic scenery. Interesting supporting characters and a surprising twist round out a great read at a super bargain price!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Poetic, Romantic Adventure, September 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rogue Wave (Kindle Edition)
Maureen Miller's "Rogue Wave" is a tale of romantic suspense that takes place against the lush, exotic backdrop of the Hawaiian Islands. Ms. Miller's writing style reflects that beautiful background, bringing an almost lyrical feel to the narrative, despite the harsh realities of the storyline, which include conflict between beachfront developers and conservationists, along with some present-day pirating.

Ms. Miller presents her setting with a deft hand, describing the scenery pithily, yet poetically: "Beyond Aloha Tower, the ocean was turning dusky rose under a violet twilight. The lights of the marketplace flickered on, and further beyond, a freighter moored at Sand Island became an illuminated hulk on the dark horizon." With her characters, she is equally adept, breathing life into not only the traditional good-looking, intelligent hero and heroine, but also the quirky side-kicks and bothersome family members.

The central conflict in "Rogue Wave" is the series of unexplained mini tidal waves that threaten the coast of Hawaii. As the story unfolded, I was intrigued by that mystery, and would have liked more of it. But it seemed that the focus was more on the relationship between the hero and heroine and less on the bad guys' shenanigans, which I was anxious to learn more about. In other words, the plot was more like that of a traditional romance than I personally would have liked, but for traditional romance fans, it should be spot-on.

From a technical standpoint, the story was well done, with no clunky transitions or shoddy plot holes, and no more than one or two typos. My chief complaint was the frequency of point-of-view switches in the scenes between the hero and heroine. While I am a huge fan of multi-character POV, I prefer to spend more than a couple paragraphs at a time in any one character's head, else I suffer the onset of multiple personality disorder. That little detail aside, if you are seeking an elegantly written romance combined with an intriguing mystery, Maureen Miller's "Rogue Wave" will not disappoint

I enjoyed this book for the first half, then it started to drag on and on and on. The wave turned into a trickle, then dried up altogether! I skimmed over the last 3rd of the book, couldnt wait for it to end. I do not recommend this one.
