Book Description

This is no fairy tale…

Haunted by nightmares of a black dog, sick to death of my mind-numbing career and heart-numbing fiancé, I impulsively walked out of my life—and fell into Faerie. Terrified, fascinated, I discover I possess a power I can't control: my wishes come true. After an all-too-real attack by the animal from my dreams, I wake to find myself the captive of the seductive and ruthless fae lord Rogue. In return for my rescue, he demands an extravagant price—my firstborn child, which he intends to sire himself…

With no hope of escaping this world, I must learn to harness my magic and build a new life despite the perils—including my own inexplicable and debilitating desire for Rogue. I swear I will never submit to his demands, no matter what erotic torment he subjects me to…

3.0 out of 5 stars I want more... February 15, 2013
By FaeRhi
Format:Kindle Edition
I must have more of this series... not only because it is a good book, but because, by the time the book ends, the story seems to only be getting started.

Gwynn is completely bored out of her skull with her life (boring job, on her way to becoming a trophy wife not allowed to speak her mind, etc) and it doesn't take long for her to leave it completely, driving away without a true destination in mind. But she finds herself at The Devil's Tower, rumored to be magical. She takes refuge for the night at a nearby B&B. The next day, as she wanders the grounds of the Tower, she feels compelled to perform a ritual - though only the reader recognizes it as such. To Gwynn, this is simply an act of saying "I'm here."

It immediately transports her to another world. Brighter, bolder colors, beautiful scenery - in her words "Disney Ireland." When she wishes for something (such as water or bird song) and it shows up or happens - but not without consequence. And that is a huge part of this book - consequence.

One of my favorite facets of Rogue's Pawn is the communication between Gwynn and the Fae. She can communicate with some of them telepathically, which she's not used to, so therefore she's "yelling" most of the time, having all the rest glare at her and tell her to "turn the volume down". Also, she doesn't speak the same language as them, yet she's able to understand what they're trying to say. A perfect example of this is when a particularly distasteful fairy informs Gwynn that she hopes that everyone votes to kill her (Gwynn) in the most painful way possible. Gwynn replies, "Well, that's honest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not really a romance August 15, 2014
By KLV
Format:Kindle Edition
>Subject - book review - Rogue's Pawn

> Review

>I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock.

>This is book one in the Covenant of Thorns series. The story ends not so much in a cliff hanger, but more unresolved.

> We are introduced to an unfulfilled young woman named Jennifer. She has a fiancé, but as she describes how mean and controlling he is, you feel how trapped she is. She does the first brave thing in her life and leaves her fiancé, Clive, at a party and just drives. She ends up at Devil's Tower and falls into a mysterious, new land. She quickly realizes that whatever she wishes for, comes true. Every thought of a want is granted. She is attacked by a black dog and almost dies. A handsome man, named Rogue, saves her life, but then exacts a price for his services. She must be trained to control her thoughts and then mate with Rogue, wherein he will keep her first born child that he sires.

>In this land, she is renamed Gwynn. The sexual torture she is subjected to is awful. She is humiliated, beaten, and molested at the hands of 2 sadists. She realizes Rogue knew of this treatment and allowed it. Gwynn is eventually able to control her thoughts and tap her magic, but now suffers from PTSD. She is taken to a war to help the fae side win. While at the camp, she is forced to perform magic, like a pet monkey.

>This series is supposed to be the romantic story of Rogue and Gwynn. I can't buy the feelings Rogue says he has for Gwynn, when he allowed such sadistic torture to happen to her. He keeps referring to her as his "prize" and his "pet". This does not sound like healthy romantic love to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Reading August 17, 2014
By Laisca
Format:Kindle Edition
Jennifer is unhappy with her life and ready to make a change, but she never dreamed running from her fiancé and old life would lead her into Faerie. It's a world where we can find magic pillows, big black dogs, a Darling cat and wishes do come true.

Be careful what you wish for takes on a whole new meaning as we watch Jennifer fight to survive in this new place. Everyone seems to want a piece of her and why wouldn't they? She's not only powerful, but she's beautiful as well. You can't help but like her strength and determination to survive what few would be able to. In a land with no friends, she is constantly avoiding traps as she looks for a means of escape. Even from Rogue, the one who saved her life.

Rogue and Jennifer are both great characters. They probably shouldn't be together but you can't help but want them to be. Jennifer fights the attraction as hard as she can, but who could fight Rogue or really want to? He's super sexy.

This was a great read that took us to a wonderful new world. My only complaint would be that I wanted the first book to take me farther into the story than it did. I will definitely be reading book two and can't wait to see what happens with Rogue and Jennifer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic, Adventure, and Romance - Oh My! October 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Intricate world building, the characters are great and the action is fast paced. It is a difference view of the world of the fae that brings in pieces of all of those folktales you may have heard along the way. More than just some sappy para-romance, the conflict between Gwynn and .. well.. all of her conflicts in general help to make this book so multifaceted. If you enjoy para-romance but have been waiting for something that is not your typical meet, fall in love instantly, resist it, fall for it, have a conflict and resolve it to live happily ever after, then this book is for you!

This book (and its sequels) have everything! Magic and intrigue, manipulation and sneaky revenge, adventure and a heroine that is not perfect, does not pretend to be, and is an adult about her decisions and actions. Romance is intense without being the only thing the book stands on. I feel its fair to give a warning to those who are sensitive about abusive situations, there are a lot in this book and the ones following, but I 100% recommend it regardless.
