Book Description

Book 1 of The Willden Trilogy:

Ryallon is a vast world with enormous forests, great mountain ranges, and vast oceans. Large human populations live on a few of the continents, but many areas of the world are unexplored and filled with magical creatures of all sorts. It is in this magical world that our story occurs.

Tathan left home at the age of fifteen in order to travel the world and live a life of adventure. Fourteen years later, he has come home to the valley where he was raised. He found the adventure along the way, but it hadn't always been the sort of adventure one dreamed of; with dragons, maidens, knights and treasure. Most of it was much darker; with dark alleys, knives, and a primal struggle for life at the lowest levels.

Liselle is a young woman of seventeen years whose parents wish her to marry soon. However, marriage is the last thing on her mind when she has never seen anything beyond the lonely valley where she lives. Liselle spends much of her time talking to the flowers about how she feels and they listen to her intently.

Vevin is something else entirely. His home was recently stolen from him by a terrible creature who hurt him badly. Now he is looking for a new home. Preferably something with a large area to keep his treasure . . . once he acquires some.

Sir Danth is the greatest of the Knights of Morhain. Of course, he's the only Knight of Morhain still alive . . . sort of alive . . . only different.

Rumors are spreading about a new race called "Rojuun", who appeared from the depths of the mountains eight hundred years ago with the intention of taking over the world. It is their understanding that humans exist to serve them. They are a bit disappointed that the humans don't seem to be aware of that fact.

The companions are charged with finding out more about this race of Rojuun. Will they be entranced by beautiful music flowing through the air, or will they die a horrible death in the darkest depths of the world? And who, or what exactly is Vevin anyway?

The Willden Trilogy is an epic fantasy that follows the adventures of Tathan and his companions through the Willden Forest and into the depths of the world. A new race called Rojuun has appeared in the world and is threatening to make humans their servants. It is the companions' task to learn more and perhaps rescue a princess if they have the time.

This is a full length novel of 107,000 words, which would translate to about 350-400 pages in paperback.

About the Author

John H. Carroll was the youngest of seven children and was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1970 where he was kept in a dresser drawer with the clean socks. Luckily he wasn't kept with the dirty socks or else he might have grown up to become slightly warped.

As a child, John spent most of his time wandering through the Mojave Desert in an attempt to avoid people. He would stare at the sky, imagining what it would be like to explore different worlds. One of his favorite memories is watching his dad build the fuselage of Evil Kneivel's skycycle in their garage. One of his least favorite moments was watching that skycycle fall into the Snake River. (Not his dad's fault and he has documentation to prove it, so nyah)

As a teenager, John spent most of his time driving wherever he could in an attempt to avoid people. He would stare at the road, imagining what it would be like to explore different worlds. He was the captain of the chess team and lettered in golf and band while in high school and wasn't beaten up anywhere near as much as one might imagine.

As an adult, John spent most of his time staring at a computer screen in an attempt to avoid people. He stares at the monitor for hours, imagining what it would be like to explore different worlds. He has been married to his wonderful wife for 14 years and they have three obnoxio . . . wonderful children who always behave . . . when they're asleep.

Rojuun is the first book of a series that will continue for a while. He writes in the evenings and weekends whenever possible. Regrettably, the family mentioned in the previous paragraph desires food and shelter, requiring the author to possess a full time job until such time as his writing makes him rich.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable June 15, 2011
By A. Holt
Format:Kindle Edition
Rojuun is a well written interesting story. I liked the characters and the world. I feel a bit guilty giving it only four stars, but I save five stars for my absolute favorite books. This book was enjoyable, and I wasted no time purchasing the second book. Book one ended well. Although the ending hints at things to come, the story is complete. It is like a good meal: I was satisfied, but still want more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Enjoyable Fantasy Quest September 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I greatly enjoy fantasy quest books. I really love witty, snarky dialogue. Mix these elements together with interesting characters and an energy compelling you to read the next word, line, page - and you have this book. It will have you laughing out loud in many, many places. I had a super hard time putting it down when it was already way past my bedtime or when lunch break was over. ~sigh~

My favorite character is Vevin. ~insert happy-to-meet-Vevin dance here~
Maybe it's the innocence despite his age. Maybe it's that he always tries to be happy as a default mood and enjoys exploring. Maybe it's because he just wants so much for the others to like him and not be afraid of him. Whatever the case, Vevin has become my favorite character from this series - and I know that Tathan, Liselle, and Sir Danth wouldn't mind too much. ~grin~

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good! January 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I've loved fantasy and science fiction almost since I first learned to read and since I'm in my mid sixties, that's a whole lot of books. I enjoyed traveling along with Tathan, Liselle, Vevin and Sir Danth. If you want to dip your feet in a good read, I recommend this one. Tho' reading on my computer gives my eyes fits and I can only read for an hour or two at a time, I found myself constantly drawn back into the story. I hope to see it in paperback so I can read it in one sitting again and again. I found this new (to me) author thru the free download from "EReader News" and have added Mr Carroll to my list of authors to keep track of. I hope to continue to see more books from him.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite Up to Snuff May 31, 2012
By Telos
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The first book of Rojuun was fantastic, I was drawn in quickly by the fast paced action in the beginning of the story. The characters seemed strong and the premiss interesting. I finished the first book in one day and felt that it was worth paying the extra money for the other two books. I purchased them the next day.

The second book to the series was met with bitter disappointment. The characters did not seem as strong as they did in the first book and I found that the use of repetition in their mannerisms (Vevin's dancing) and speech (phrases like "Oh yes" in the beginning of every other sentence) annoying at times. The use of affection/romance was overly done, which for me, is quite a shocker since I generally like a little romance but this was just too much. After finishing the second book, I moved onto the third hoping it would redeem its predecessor, but I was wrong.

The third book was even more disappointing than the second. The story line was disjointed and it seemed that the author was grasping at straws to keep the story line going. I found the language of all three books to be geared more for a younger audience, yet the content of the second, and especially the third was directed for a more mature audience. If you are a parent of a pre-teen or even young teens, I would sensor this series before allowing them to read it as some of content contains sensuality and sexual material that parents may not approve of them exposing themselves to. The moral integrity of the book falls to further shambles when Tathan encourages the notion that it is alright to have an affair with someone if you love them. He makes no effort to talk to the king or seek other solutions to stay with the woman he loves.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Loved It! January 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I always look for free books as I discover new authors most of the time. I really enjoyed this book. It has all the key components of fantasy with knights and epic struggles. I enjoyed the characters and their interactions. There are so many directions that the next book could take. I thought it was well written and I enjoyed it. I will be getting the other books as well.

Emo bunny minions surround John at most times. He is their imaginary friend and they look to him for guidance. At one point, they took over the world. No one noticed because they left everything exactly as it was. They gave the world back after a week because it was depressing.

The Willden Trilogy is his first endeavor into the field of writing. Other series and standalone works will be forthcoming. In addition, John has written a number of short stories that can be found at most eBook sites. He writes in the evenings and weekends whenever possible. Regrettably, the family mentioned in a previous paragraph desires food and shelter, requiring the author to possess a full time job until his writing makes him rich.
