This review is from: Rokinon 800mm Multi-Coated Mirror Lens with 2x Teleconverter (=1600mm) for Canon EOS Rebel XSi, XS, XTi, XT, T1i, 5D, 30D, 40D & 50D Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
I have to agree with a number of the other reviews I've read on this type and quality of lens - it's a decent product for experimenting and not-too-serious playing around (especially for the price) but, as expected, doesn't provide ultra high quality images.
I bought this lens for use with the Canon EOS 5D Mk2. The "kit" comes with a vinyl carry-pouch, lens caps for both ends, a 2x extender, and an EOS adapter for attaching the lens to the camera body. The EOS adapter screws onto either the 2x extender or the lens itself, depending on which configuration (1600mm or 800mm, respectively) you want. All the parts fit and work together, making a ready-to-use lens for EOS bodies as advertised. Cons: The lens tends to make the camera front-heavy, so even on a sturdy tripod you have to aim a little high to allow for the weight lowering the shot a bit once you tighten and let go of the tripod elevation twist-lever. The focus is *extremely* sensitive - one tiny touch can change focus from semi-sharp to blur. I say "semi-sharp" because even after a lot of effort trying to focus on the full moon, I could never get that knock-out close-up sharp image I was hoping for. Pros: Overall, the product seems fairly solid and well-built, and while not so great for magnifying far-away subjects, I was surprised to find that it could focus on nearby objects (about 12-15 feet away) with surprising clarity. This may turn out to be a better choice for filming wildlife and such at 20-100 feet than other more distant objects, especially if the light is intense. Note: The product I received was all black rather than black and white as shown in the item photo (not a big deal).

poor field of view/difficult to focus even on a good tripod/almost impossible with the doubler/optics 2nd rate/but usable with patience about what you expect for the price

i didn't realize when i bought this lens how limiting it is to have f/8. you have to use this lens in well lit situations. can't really use the built in flash because the lens obstructs the light and causes and intense shadow. the zoom is so intense it's very shaky and hard to keep stable. because of the aperture limitation, you can't use a super-fast shutter speed. definitely must be used with a tripod. the image quality from this lens isn't very good. images all came out fuzzy. the 2x converter is completely useless, don't pay more for that. i thought "wow, 1600mm!!" the truth is it's double 800mm but half the quality, and it's even harder to keep stable. its the equivalent to digital zoom. i'd rather not bother with it, and just crop my images in photoshop afterwards. i compared it to my canon 200mm lens. because the quality is low on this lens the canon was surprisingly comparable. speaking in terms of quality the canon was only 1/2 as clear on distant pictures instead of 1/4 because even though it has less zoom, the image quality is way better. that's the difference from professional brand name lenses and these cheap knock offs. whose ever heard of Rokinon anyways? this lens is very big, and heavy. it won't fit in my camera bag, so i never have it with me if i want to use it. plus you need to carry a tripod and possibly a remote shutter release. it's use has to be planned. i thought i would be able to take microscopic pictures of things on the ground... not true, the lens won't focus on anything closer than @15 feet. flash doesn't usually work with further away objects, and that's another reason why its obsolete to use flash with this lens. i've found that if i want a close up of something that it's better to just use a different lens and get closer to the object. so the only real use for this camera is zoomed in landscapes, and possibly surveillance. most landscape pictures are zoomed out, and the i'm not interested in the latter. i have only actually used the lens once for pictures of the moon. so we are left with a limited lens with an extreme fixed zoom, and now i ask myself "when and why would i use this?" the answer is, almost never. once you get over the novelty of having 800mm zoom (and 400mm quality), think twice about if you are really going to need/use this.

I always wanted a large telephoto and decided to buy this one. Be prepared with a good tripod.
