This is not ordinary "Cold Patch" and hopefully this product will put "cold asphalt patch and cold patch alternatives" out of business because they are all horrible.

Best Features: This asphalt repair polymer sets up and dries extremely fast. It is permanent. This conforms to any surface. In deeper cracks, trenched areas or holes just mix it with rock or fill the hold with rock. You can even resurface massive areas of broken apart asphalt with this and use it like a skim coat. I searched everywhere for a product like this and finally found it being used for racetracks and other places where the repair needed to be immediate and permanent. I have never liked ordinary "cold asphalt patch" because some take months to "cure, dry and harden," constantly gets tar on shoes and tires, cracks and brakes apart over time, or does not stay in or stick to the hole or crack. This product has none of those problems. Finally, it looks like asphalt unlike other polymers that look like black glue.

As others have said...I wish they sold this at the local hardware stores... Get a clue Lowes, Home Depot and Menards...! Cold Patches all Suck. It is the reason you have 50 products on the shelf (petroleum based, polymers, latex, and etc...)...none are any good...just read the reviews! This product is the solution to every one of the common complaints in the reviews...

This is a very good asphalt repair kit. The biggest downfall is shipping and handling. Consumers should also be aware that although it say a 5 gallon kit you actually only get about 3 gallons. I wish Lowes or Home Depot sold this stuff.

Alright , #1 Product needs to be in your local Home Depot or Lowes to save alot of money on shipping

#2 I have NEVER used a product that was this easy to put together and use. It could not be any easier

#3 Only complaint is how much coverage you get out of it and I should have ordered more.

#4 NEVER use cold patch again !!!! This is the best stuff out there , Hardens in an hour or so.

UPDATE 2/25/15 see update at the bottom of this review...

I have just put down my third container of this stuff and before I get to my perception of its performance I will address the packaging.

The finishing media is packaged in poor performing plastic bags. Possibly it is just an age issue of the plastic, but in 2 of the 3 five gal. containers the plastic bags containing the finishing media were cracked and leaking into the sand media meant to be mixed. Hopefully the integrity of my finished application does not suffer as a result of this issue. 2 out of 3 means Roklin must know about this, or perhaps the reseller has really old product. Dunno.

As far as performance is considered, I am pretty pleased at this point. Preparation is key and having the right mixing tools (1/2 inch drill with mixer) is critical. Even at cool morning temps this stuff will go glunk on you pretty quick. That being said, I was able to get my applications down (10 minutes each?) with finished feather edges and the stuff does appear to be pretty hardy.

The question will be answered next spring. Hopefully the claim that it prevents reflective cracks will prove true. Stay tuned.

And certainly, if it turns out well, I will upgrade my rating. Pave on.

Update: After writing this review I did note that the dating on the product packaging was not old, so that was not the issue with the poor performance of the plastic bag containing the finishing sand...still could have been fatigued plastic I imagine despite the fairly new assembly of the components...

My patching effort from last summer held up okay... I would give it an 8 out of 10 rating. Where I had a substantial thickness of the material it did well.

This stuff is amazing—it creates a strong, tough repair in minutes! Yes, it's so fast you have to be on your toes to work fast before it gells, so have your repair site ready before mixing this up. That's one word of advice, get it into the hole and screed it out quickly. Another is to save product by first packing the hole with gravel pebbles to act as filler, and the product will flow around the rocks to form a bond and a solid monolith of repair. Another point I must raise is that when you're figuring out how much to buy, a 5-gallon bucket is not 5 gallons of material, it is a 5 gallon container that houses a kit made up of two one-gallon jugs of epoxy to be mixed, plus the required amount of aggregate sand and a bag of topping sand (which prevents the repair from ending up with an undesirably glossy surface). The resulting yield is about 3 gallons. My driveway was riddled with some big ugly "birdbath" depressions (look at your driveway after a rainstorm to see why it's called that), and I need 3 kits to level out these holes. Still it was 1/10th the cost of re-doing the driveway. Bye-bye birdbaths!
