The triple-core sound generator houses an array of virtual guitars, basses, amps, and synthesizer voices, enabling a wide variety of tones and textures. The sound engine comprises two PCM synthesizers (with over 900 tones powered by Roland's synthesis technology) and COSM guitar modeling, that combined allow you to create unique sounds. well i hesitated many times to write a review but after 2 years with the GR-55 i am very convinced that this unit is a beast ...plenty of useful options ..the tracking is very impressive , sound quality is very good, i love this unit...i used to have an axon and suffered a lot with it , instead the GR-55 is very stable.
best unit available on the market, very well recommended , i only wish that i could add my own sample.. and moving through banks would be much easier but you could always link a midi foot pedal as the fcb1010 to the unit to manage the sound shifting much easier.

The GR55 by Roland is a combination of Guitar modeling and synthesis coupled with two multi-effects chains and overall chorus and reverb. It's a stunning replacement to stomp boxes, Guitar synths and the VG series of modeling. You also get a music player for live gigs, and a phrase sampler. It's absolutely my favorite guitar accessory of all time!

I do a lot of creative multitrack recording and as a guitarist I wanted to get more sounds out of my guitar. Some patches sound better than others and some track better than others but overall it's a great unit. Hear how I used it on my latest YouTube song/video- Go to channel PetepopGTR1 and check out my song "Transformation". The synth comes in around the 1:30 mark. You can hear the cello, piano and string sounds. They sound awesome. I'd give it 5 stars but I'm a pretty fast player and sometimes certain patches can't keep up with me.
Update 11/2/13- To hear more of this synth and how I used it in a song search for Turmeric Sunset on my YouTube channel. Some of the modeled guitar sounds were incredible after I tweaked them a bit. The bass is all dropped tuning and one of the solos with the dropped GTR background tuning has the most penetrating guitar sound over it. You'll know which one. It was hard to edit the attack on however and I had to really slow down or it would just cut out on me on fast picking. Still overall very happy with it and the way the song came out.
Update 8/5/14- Search for "Progression of Winds" on YouTube to hear the GR-55 sound like an orchestra in my latest video.
