This review is from: Roland Super MPU32 External MIDI Interface (Personal Computers)
When it feels like working it delivers. It conveys information between the music making machine and the noise making machine well. I use Finale PrintMusic software on a PC under Windows XP pro, connected to a Yamaha PSR-340 keyboard.

Now massacre starts. This MIDI to PC usb musical interface sings like a Prima donna. Like a good Prima donna it sings when it has the mood and feels like working. Problems start on setup time with recognition by the PC. The built in standard MIDI OS driver can't see it. It means you must download and install the driver from Edirol. You have to beg the arrogant device on your knees, to be kind and electronically shake hands with the PC. At first I thought it was personal against the particular computer I used. The computer never shaves nor brushes its teeth. After testing it on 2 more PCs it was evident the stupid gadget hates PCs. Maybe it is in love with MACs only. After a lot of reboots and setups finally it felt like working. How ever from time to time it decided to take a sabbatical. Then you have to uninstall it reinstall and hope for the best.

To make the list of problems larger, it has one more drawback with the Windows driver. You have to remember to be logged on as administrator when running your software. Else this device will never be found by the driver. In that case you have to sing aloud the great melody you have composed. Keyboards can't guess your music. Keyboards have to be supplied the notes through their MIDI lines. Telepathic keyboards haven't been invented yet. This is a problem if your human Network Administrator hears about it. Human network administrators hate users logged in as administrators. They refuse to share the administrative glory. They claim it is a security breach. Whether it is true or just an excuse isn't important. Human network administrator can cause you trouble.

After I stopped sobbing, I purchased a used [ASIN:B000BF76HY Hosa USB To Midi]] from Hosa Technology, for pennies. It does not need a downloaded driver. The Windows operating system built in driver works.
