About the Author

Margret Amatayakul, MBA, RHIA, FHIMSS, has more than 25 years of experience in national and international healthcare information management. She launched the Computer-based Patient Record Institute and served as its executive director through 1997. Margret is a leading authority on successfully designing and implementing computer-based patient record projects and on developing CPR strategies for healthcare organizations.

After serving as director of medical record services at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, associate professor at the University of Illinois at the Medical Center, associate executive director of the American Health Information Management Association, and vice-president of a major health information systems/market intelligence consulting firm, Margret formed her own consulting firm, Margret\A Consulting, LLC, in 1999. She provides information systems consulting services, freelance writing, and educational programming to the healthcare industry.

Margret earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at the Medical Center and her master's degree in business administration, with concentrations in marketing and finance, from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a widely sought after speaker, has published extensively, serves on several boards of directors and editorial review boards, and chairs the ASTM standards development subcommittee on electronic health record system functionality. She also has an impressive list of professional service awards to her credit.
