More About the Author

I've been a student of the human body since I donned my first dancing shoes at age six. After receiving an MA degree in Dance from UCLA, I was privileged to study with Ida Rolf, originator of a type of body therapy known as Structural Integration. I'm proud to have been certified as a Structural Integration practitioner by Dr. Rolf herself.

Rolf's understanding of the body went beyond anything I'd learned during many years of movement training. She taught that gravity organizes human structures and that people can achieve an optimal relationship with this determining force through bodywork and education.

The New Rules of Posture presents new developments in movement education. It evolved out of my wish to share the legacy of Ida Rolf with the general public. While this legacy includes the understanding of posture and movement, it also has philosophical implications. The deeper message is that the way we inhabit our bodies affects the ways in which we perceive the world and behave toward one another.

Currently Chair of the Movement Integration® Faculty of The Rolf Institute in Boulder, CO, I also teach workshops tailored to the needs and interests of various groups such as runners, dancers, yoga practitioners and massage therapists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Rolfing Companion, September 7, 2008
This review is from: Rolfing in Motion: A Guide to Balancing Your Body (Audio CD)
I first discovered the cassette Balancing Your Body a few years ago, and fell in love with it. I lost it a few years ago and no longer have a tape player, so I was upset not finding it on CD. So I contacted the author and discovered that this is the CD version!! YAY!!

Mary starts with a set of "breathing lessons" that are out of this world. I have never come across a better set of instructions on how to breathe properly. It then moves through different areas of the body.

This is an excellent companion to a Rolfing, as well as a fantastic way to stay in alignment after finishing your serious.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rolfing in Motion : a Guide to Balancing your Body, January 9, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rolfing in Motion: A Guide to Balancing Your Body (Audio CD)
Save your money and don't buy this CD. The voice is unpleasant, as non-hypnotic as possible, and reading the text so fast that you have no time to follow the instructions. "Coming back to your normal state now" sounds as a joke since it is impossible while using this CD to feel anything but irritation.
