Rolie Polie Olie - One of a kind!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rolie Polie Olie (Hardcover)
Wow, Rolie Polie Olie is a huge hit at our home. Not only the TV series and the new book, but now you can get toys of the whole family through etoys.com. They are absolutely precious. I received mine today and don't know if I will be able to wait until Christmas to give them to my children. Check them out. I promise you don't want to miss out.

Great for discussing similarities and differences,

This review is from: Rolie Polie Olie (Hardcover)
My son (almost three) has been crazy about this book from the moment he saw the cover. It's about a toddler/robot named Rolie Polie Olie who lives on a distant planet. The gentle, rhyming story recounts his day with his family--breakfast, chores, play time, naughty behavior, bedtime. We spend a lot of time pointing out the similiarities and differences between our family and Olie's. For example, our house is shaped like a box; Olie's house is shaped like a teapot. Our vacuum stays on the ground; Olie's vacuum flies through the air and makes bubbles. This feature alone makes the book worthwhile. Be warned, however, that the poetic text with its odd phrases and syntax will be somewhat puzzling to toddlers; I'm still at a loss to explain, "Yes, okey dokey is the day when all you Rolie did was play." Some of the illustrations will also confuse--just try sorting out Olie's dad from the pogo stick and the tree house; it's all a mesmerizing mish-mash of odd shapes and bright colors. That said, the overall story is simple enough that it will carry young readers/listeners through the tough spots. And there is an awful lot here to enjoy.

Great reading for youngster,

My child delights in this book. I have only had it for a week now but the pages are already becoming worn because he wants me to read it to him every time he sees it. He is only three and already he knows the book backwards and forwards. Forget about Barney or Teletubbies, Rolie Polie Olie has become his new favorite. The book features brightly animated pictures of the main character and depicts he and his family in a charming settin. They enjoy their day engaging in family activities. There is also a crucial element to the book that my son can definately relate to being that he sometimes becomes overworked and wired and is then not mindful of others. William Joyce portrays this one special point carefully as he shows the main character and his family in a happily ever after situation.

You can't fight the rhumba!,

This review is from: Rolie Polie Olie (Hardcover)
I have to admit that this is a somewhat reluctant 5 stars. Why? As an adult reader, I don't think this book is as good as William Joyce's other books, like "Dinosaur Bob", "George Shrinks", and my favorite "A Day with Wilbur Robinson".But my 1 year-old does not agree. This is by far his favorite book in his young life. Whenever he sees the cover he starts doing what my wife and I call "crazy arms" -- waving his arms excitedly, making noise and moving around. Not sure what magic Joyce is weaving here -- but it works. Also, while the words aren't pure poetry, it is fun to read aloud. We always do the "Rolie Polie Rhumba Dance" which our boy loves. While I don't love the illustration style as much as the other Joyce books -- it is effective given the Rolie universe. So, while I might give this a 3.5, my son gives it 100 -- I guess I have to give it the full 5 stars.

Rolie Polie Olie,
By K. Alan Davis (Hilliard, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews

Rolie Polie Olie is my 23 month old daughters favorite Disney Character. She fell in love with the show at about 15 months so we bought her the book late last fall. Now almost 8 months later, it is still her favorite book. The only problem was that this is not a board book so the pages are becoming worn. If you like this book, we now also own two other books about Rolie Polie Olie that are board books that I would recomend. One is "How Many Howdy's"(a counting book from 1 to 10) and the other is "Be My Pal!" which is a book about how Olie and his little sister Zowie become best pals.

Rolie Polie Wonderful,
This review is from: Rolie Polie Olie (Hardcover)
Come spend the day with Rolie Polie Olie who lives with his Mom and Pop, sister Zowie and dog Spot on a special planet of curves and curls. They get up in the morning, brush their teeth, recharge their heads, eat Rolie O's for breakfast and then dance the rumba dance in underpants. They work together cleaning their teapot house and playing all day until poor Olie gets so overtired and wired, he can't calm down for bedtime and gets in trouble (maybe like someone you know). But all turns out well and he gets his goodnight kiss on his Rolie Polie head. Then it's time to sleep tight, so that they're all ready for another busy day..... William Joyce captures the essence of a busy pre-schooler in this gentle, rhyming, silly story. But what makes this book so special are the computer enhanced illustrations, full of vibrant, expressive, detailed images that almost spill off the page. Youngsters who love the Disney Channel, Rolie Polie Olie TV show will certainly enjoy this wonderful book.

Rolie Polie Olie is one of my daughter's favorite books. We have read it so many times, she can "read" it with me. The story covers a day in the life of Rolie Polie Olie, from the moment he tumbles out of bed and recharges his head to when he is Rolie Polie tired at the end of a busy day. The pictures are bright, crisp, and so alive, they almost look three dimensional. It is a truly delightful book, perfect for bedtime reading. The story is told in silly rhymes that are easy to remember after only a few readings. We can't wait for the next one and will buy it to add to our home library.

My kids, ages 4 and 5.5, would like to read this book every night. They argue over "who picked it tonight" because they both want the credit! They claim to "read it by themselves" because they truly have the whole book memorized, word for word. And they still aren't bored with it! I love it because it shows forgiveness and understanding when Rolie "pops Zoe's bubble" and gets into alot of trouble. Rolie goes to bed feeling really bad for what he did. But he apologizes and all if forgiven. To everyone: buy this book, you will all enjoy it!

Funny and fun to read,
This review is from: Rolie Polie Olie (Hardcover)
Great book, in the most frequently requested pile...You have to love a book that has a line in it like "the rolie polie rumba dance is ALWAYS done in underpants". My daughter(23m)doesn't watch the show but she LOVES this book.
