This is warm and sustaining Jazz, produced with true musical instruments, no electronics. Of course I am a bit iffy on the Hammond, but it too produces a rich sound. This is something the Smooth Jazz producers should take note of. Try some genuine music for a change, and toss out the electronic simulators, and bring back real music. Now I know the aim is to save money, but in this attempt music in gerneral has been hurt, and especially Jazz.

My hands down favorite is "Isn't It Romantic," the violin, in the Jazz format is such a change from what we have been accustomed to, and it works beautifully. If you are one of those who does not like Jazz, give this a listen some quiet evening, and see what you think. This is a genre that has taken so many hits of late, because it is so watered down. But if you are a Jazz lover, and you have not heard this CD, purchase, beg, barrow, or download a copy, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dealing group of mature musicians, August 8, 2011
This review is from: Roll Call (Audio CD)
Wow , The first time i heard Mel Rhyne play organ was on a stupendous Wes Montgomery record . Imagine my surprise when i saw the guys on this great date ? I've only got the twenty year old cassette (i'm listening as i write) at this time . 1991 saw Justice records release this deeply rewarding session with That wonderful Mr. Rhyne on fantastic B-3 organ . along for the ride , and each contributing warmly and hugely , are Jake Hanna (drums) , Jay Thomas (tenor saxaphone and flugelhorn) , Johnny Frigo (violin) and our leader Herb Ellis (guitar) . This album is many wonderful things . There are so many different styles of music here , ALL done superbly , i regard this as a must own . Get this one if you can . It's laid back (by and large) with a few fast paced songs . Mr. Frigo (violin) is featured on four songs . Mr. Thomas is featured twice on (tenor) and once flugelhorn . REALLY dealing stuff that's mostly Herb , Mel and Jake . Gets better every listen . Highest recommendation . eleven songs in all . Beautiful .
