From Booklist

Detective Sergeant^B Roger Hayes is struggling to establish a new criminal-intelligence unit at the behest of Scotland Yard. Hayes fears, though, that his bosses are using the assignment as a way to keep him stuck behind a desk. His opportunity to prove that his new unit is worthwhile and that he's still a good cop comes when Suzie Brigham, wife of political bigwig Sir William Brigham, is found murdered at the Brigham estate in a rural village. Hayes is assigned to handle the media aspects of the case, but he's more interested in solving it. He and his intimidating new partner, Mo Prentice, find plenty of potential suspects, including the victim's husband and stepdaughter, the estate manager, and a handyman. A solid plot from genre veteran Armstrong combined with an engaging pair of characters and a vivid glimpse of English village life add up to a pleasant mix of cozy and procedural. Emily Melton
