This newly revised and expanded survey of roller coasters in the U.S. and Canada includes twice as many roller coasters as the original edition, providing a state-by-state listing of amusement and theme parks and photos of their featured rides and their history. Add black and white photos and an overall review of coaster history and you have an involving, fine title.

This book is an exhaustive listing of the roller coasters in the United States as well as Canada. It includes a 35 page history of the roller coaster from its earliest ice slide beginings to present steel and wooden coasters. All of the pictures in this book are black and white; most aren't anything spectacular. Also included are short coaster designer profiles, coaster record breakers, a coaster census by state/province, and a chronology of wooden coasters in operation. This book lists the coasters in alphabetical order by state/province and then by park.

Overall, this book is a dissapointment for its price. If you are a major coaster fan and you have the money it is a worthwhile purchase. It is an excellent reference with an interesting history, ect. It is also current to the year 2000. If your looking for an interesting roller coaster book with excellent color photographs check out The American Roller Coaster by Scott Rutherford.

This is a great gift for the roller coaster lover in your life. They will love it with its many photos, descriptions and other information that is very useful to those who love these rides that make us scream, laugh,cry, and throw up. They will spend hours with this book reading it, and looking it over.

If you did not like this book than you are no true coaster fan. It gives a great and complete listing of all the roler coasters in the U.S. and Canada uop until the year 2000. I am a roller coaster addict so I can tell you that he made 2 tiny errors. Otherwise the book is absoulutely wonderful. A must buy.

Very cool book with lots of detailed descriptions. Makes one want to take a long road trip to visit all these amusement parks and ride these roller coasters!

Bought this book for my 11-year-old son, a big-time coaster enthusiast (though it wasn't written specifically for children). Very up-to-date information; would recommend this book. His only complaints: would have preferred color photos to the black-and-whites, and there is an error: a photo of Chang is incorrectly labeled as the Georgia Scorcher.

Overall, a great book - kudos to Todd Throgmorton for keeping his series going with this 3rd Edition. Makes me want to investigate the older issues to discover coasters that have come and gone. Comprehensive and packed-full of factual information about all the coasters from around the US and Canada - any coaster enthusiast is sure to appreciate and love! Just one hopefully constructive critique ... Though I enjoyed reading all I wanted to know about the coasters I have been on and reminiscing over some of the ooasters listed from recently defunct parks, for me, the book is a step back from what I expected. As excited as I was to recieve it, I do find it challenging to read in one sitting. This book is less of a coffee table/entertaining piece and more "text book"/reference-style reading with oodles of heavy text, sometimes hard-to-see black and white photos throughout and sandy/chalk-tinted pages. Considering the price of the book, I hope the next edition makes me feel less of preparing for a quiz, incorporates color photos and a different stock of paper so I am more tempted to leave it out on my coffee table verses the library bookcase.
