These are great skates, very cute, great ankle support and seem very well constructed. My only complaint is that they run alittle small. For instance, my daughter is a size 12 w/alittle extra room so I ordered these in a size 12 thinking she'd still have some extra room, like she does with her everyday shoes and with the skates used at our local skating rink but that wasn't the case. Her big toe was at the very tip of the skate, with no room to move. I highly recommend ordering one size larger not only because they take at least a week and a half to arrive but because the company doesn't offer exchanges. You have to return the skates and purchase new ones and they charge you $7 on top of that for return shipping, deducting it from your refund. I wish I would've known that beforehand. My daughter is so sad, not only did she have to wait almost two weeks for her first pair, now she has to wait for the second pair to arrive and I'm out $7 bucks. I went ahead and ordered the new ones already and will be retuning the original ones tomorrow to cut down the wait time for my daughter but I think I'm just alittle annoyed by the wait time and that they charge $7 to return/exchange. It's not the $7 but the sneakiness. O well. Just wanted to share my story so that others can avoid the same situation : )

My daughter, who just received these as a gift, asked me to re-insert the little foam insert into her skate. In doing so I noticed a thick, round piece of plastic jutting up in center of the heel area of the shoe. It was the size & shape of a pencil eraser, definitely not something that you want jutting into the heel of your child's foot.

I then pushed my hand further into the shoe to see if there were any more, and found a nail. The nail was sticking up into the shoe over a 1/4" of an inch. Seriously unacceptable! FYI, I am not referring to the two rivets that are visible if you remove the liner, I am talking about a metal spike sticking up into the shoe cavity.

If you have or are given these skates, please remove the foam inserts and check the insides of the shoes before giving them to a child. Better yet, purchase a higher-quality skate from a brand that exercises proper construction and quality control.

I personally wanted to purchase the roller derby city lites skates for my daughter during the Christmas Holiday's because they were different from the other skates. I enjoy the fact that they lite up and that they were a little different from what most kids would wear but they were sold out. I am kind of glad that they were because she was still excited to have these skates than the other skates because purple is her favorite color and she didn't have to worry about replacing the wheels once the light became defected. Overall, a excellent pairs of skates and good quality. I recommend to purchase one size up from your normal size. Wondeful!

I bought these as a FIRST pair of skates for my 9 year old. She loves them and has worn them almost daily for 3 months. They have taken a beating. She rides indoors, on cement, on paver stone, in the street, in the grass, walks through sand boxes, and goes up and down stairs walking on the stoppers. The wheels and bumber are holding up well. The toes are deeply scuffed, but the seams are holding fast and there are no holes. One of the liners recently came out and had a hole worn through at the toe. When new, the bearings were slower than expected which was fine at first. Now, with more experience, she has started to complain about the bearings. Her other complaints are: it takes too much time to get in/out of the skates with the extra ankle support (to me, the added support is a plus), and other kids have 'cooler' looking skates. Thankfully, her recent complaints haven't kept her from enjoying the skates. I plan to buy new bearings eventually, but will not be buying skates without ankle support or replacing these early for 'cooler' looking ones. Perhaps when she outgrows them, I will get a more expensive 'cooler' pair which have all the features I want as well. All in all, I think these are a safe, sturdy, and attractive pair of skates for the price.

Very pleased with this purchase for my 7-year-old... the skates are well-constructed and have already paid for themselves (as opposed to shelling out three-bucks in rental fees at the rink each week). Size-wise, we ordered one size larger than she wears in shoes... this worked well; she did have to wear two pairs of socks for a few months, but I'd rather have her grow into them, than outgrow them too soon!

The skates arrived with the wheels too tight; this was initially a worry and I contemplated sending them back. Instead, I contacted Roller Derby customer service and spoke with a friendly, knowledgeable representative who had me use a wrench to give each of the nuts a quarter-turn. This loosened them right up and the wheels have turned freely ever since. Also, the Velcro strap at the top of the ankle often catches the lace. As a result, the lace is frayed a bit; I just try to minimize this by keeping the Velcro strapped down when the skates are not in use. (See pic of frayed lace.) Although they're frayed, my daughter will probably outgrow the skates before I'd need to replace the laces.
