Nail sticking up into shoe!,
This review is from: Roller Derby Firestar Girl's Roller (Sports)
My daughter, who just received these as a gift, asked me to re-insert the little foam insert into her skate. In doing so I noticed a thick, round piece of plastic jutting up in center of the heel area of the shoe. It was the size & shape of a pencil eraser, definitely not something that you want jutting into the heel of your child's foot.
I then pushed my hand further into the shoe to see if there were any more, and found a nail. The nail was sticking up into the shoe over a 1/4" of an inch. Seriously unacceptable! FYI, I am not referring to the two rivets that are visible if you remove the liner, I am talking about a metal spike sticking up into the shoe cavity. If you have or are given these skates, please remove the foam inserts and check the insides of the shoes before giving them to a child. Better yet, purchase a higher-quality skate from a brand that exercises proper construction and quality control.

I personally wanted to purchase the roller derby city lites skates for my daughter during the Christmas Holiday's because they were different from the other skates. I enjoy the fact that they lite up and that they were a little different from what most kids would wear but they were sold out. I am kind of glad that they were because she was still excited to have these skates than the other skates because purple is her favorite color and she didn't have to worry about replacing the wheels once the light became defected. Overall, a excellent pairs of skates and good quality. I recommend to purchase one size up from your normal size. Wondeful!

Great Skate for 7yr old,
This review is from: Roller Derby Firestar Girl's Roller (Sports)
I've purchased this skate in 3 different sizes. The price was right considering my 7yr old daughter's foot grows every year. My daughter loves it.

I got this as a present for my daughter, five years old... SHE LOVES THEM. Took the advice of the others and went with a size up. Worked like a charm. I would definately buy these again!
They arrived sooner than I thought they would. Lost a point because the laces are cheap. Ay well that is easy peasy to fix

What a cute pair of skates. Well made and sturdy. Unfortunately, they run about 1/2 size too small. I'm either gonna send them back or donate them. Oh well.

Finding a good pair of skates for a girl was quite a chore There are more skates out there for women then girls. We didn't want professional skates and we didn't want single line skates. I looked for wheels that were rounded on the edge so they wouldn't be such a stiff ride. These skates are great. This was my 8 year old granddaughter's first pair of skates and they were easy for her to control once she was on her own, which didn't take long. One thing I highly recommend is getting the full set of protective gear, the ones with the open fingered gloves, what a scrape saver that was because if she fell, which was quite often at first, she hit the knee pads and caught herself with her hands and elbows so every time and got right back up without a tear or hesitation to keep going. They are also good quality. They ride nice, easy to control.

These skates are sized wrong, and it's impossible to figure out which size you need without spending a lot of time and money,

I ordered these skates in a size up based on reviews that the skates run small. Even though I factored this in, the skates were way too small. My daughter wears a size 13 sneaker, and the size 1 skates were smaller than her shoes. I then ordered a larger size, which I found to be way too big. In the end, I spent a lot of time shopping and comparing sizes of the skates, had to return two boxes, lost money due to return shipping, and by the time I realized I needed to go with a different brand there were only a few days to Christmas. So, I had to order with expedited shipping from another company. I would not recommend that anyone bother with this hassle. Buy a different pair of skates that are sized correctly.

My daughter wears a size youth/toddler 13 in street shoes and we ordered these in a size 1. She says they fit great but I think she has a little wiggle room with this size. Loss of one star because of the odor (which I can only compare it to band-aids). Hopefully that vinyl odor will go away as she breaks them in but as of right now, the odor is so strong, I can smell it from the driver's seat when they are locked in the trunk!

Bought these for my 8 year old Stepdaughter in a size 3. When she first opened the package, we noticed an overpowering rubber/plastic smell. We chalked it up to new materials and assumed it would fade over time. No big deal. She used the skates for about a year until she outgrew them and moved on to rollerblades. During the year of her usage, we couldn't store them inside the house, because the rubber smell would permeate any room or closet they were in. They stayed in the garage. Today I took the skates to donate to a charity and my car smells so bad it almost made me gag. It's really a shame, because otherwise the quality was pretty decent. The laces were kind of cheap, but easily replaced. Too bad about the rubber smell!

These are great skates, very cute, great ankle support and seem very well constructed. My only complaint is that they run alittle small. For instance, my daughter is a size 12 w/alittle extra room so I ordered these in a size 12 thinking she'd still have some extra room, like she does with her everyday shoes and with the skates used at our local skating rink but that wasn't the case. Her big toe was at the very tip of the skate, with no room to move. I highly recommend ordering one size larger not only because they take at least a week and a half to arrive but because the company doesn't offer exchanges. You have to return the skates and purchase new ones and they charge you $7 on top of that for return shipping, deducting it from your refund. I wish I would've known that beforehand. My daughter is so sad, not only did she have to wait almost two weeks for her first pair, now she has to wait for the second pair to arrive and I'm out $7 bucks. I went ahead and ordered the new ones already and will be retuning the original ones tomorrow to cut down the wait time for my daughter but I think I'm just alittle annoyed by the wait time and that they charge $7 to return/exchange. It's not the $7 but the sneakiness. O well. Just wanted to share my story so that others can avoid the same situation : )
