This review is from: Roller Games (Video Game)
Rollergames was released on the NES by Ultra Games (a subsidiary of Konami) and it not a direct port of the arcade game of the same name. This was a straight up action platform game where you must battle through 5 maze like stages where the goal is to make it to the end. To beat the entire game, you'll have to beat the main bad guy waiting at the very end. This is one of those games where the home version is much better compared to the arcade version and it turned out to a hard but good game from Konami.

You pick from one of three playable characters: a slim guy, a voluptuous female and a fat guy. Each of these characters controls different but they all have the abilities to punch, kick and jump. Then you complete 5 stages with its own theme filled with combatants, hazards, traps and a boss to defeat at the end. When you beat the main villain, you win the game.

The PROS: Overall, it was a good game to play. The graphics were detailed and the animation was decent. The music was good enough to get you in the mood while the sound effects are decent and even familiar since they were taken from other Konami games. Choosing from different characters was a nice touch even though the ending was always the same. The controls were also good so if you messed up, it was because of you. The game only had 5 stages but they were long enough and had enough variety to keep you from getting bored easily.

The CONS: Rollergames was a hard game and pretty unforgiving. You had to be careful to move your character since you are always moving and must wait a second or two to come to a complete stop. This often lead to falling into a gap or over an edge. You had to memorize when to jump, where the enemies are and had to figure out each boss's pattern and plan your strategy around it since the game doesn't offer any hints. While you can earn extra lives, there are no continues or passwords so once you use them all, the game is over.

Rollergames was one of the few games that did moderately well but was quickly forgotten by Konami's other more popular ones. Though it isn't perfect, it still was worth playing and for those who liked to be challenged, weren't disappointed in the end.
