Don't Waste Your Money,
By A Customer
This review is from: RollerCoaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
Resist your urge to purchase this book if you're seeking RCT helpful hints. I say this because you won't find many helpful hints or strategies that will actually improve your game playing. Instead, this particular strategy guide gives hints that you probably already know. The Roller Coaster Tycoon knowledge you already have (merely from playing the game) is all you need. The book won't really give you any NEW hints. If you are considering buying this book, and you don't have much RCT experience, I would also discourage buying it. The game is very user-friendly; this "How to" guide filled with grammatical errors is really not necessary.

Good book to help you get started...,

This review is from: RollerCoaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
People have really bashed this book, so I thought I would give my 2 cents. To say the book is not at all helpful is mis-leading. Indeed the book is shallow, but it does offer some good advice that anyone playing the game would benefit from. IE.: When should I use an entertainer? The book tells you. IE.: How can I make my roller coaster start above ground level? The book tells you. IE.: My roller coaster is too intense and no will ride it, how do I fix it? There is more, useful, helpful advice. Ok, yes you could figure this out eventually after playing the game, but the keyword is-eventually. Get the book, find out now. The bad part: The editor did a poor job, there are typos and grammar errors, but these can be overlooked. Some of the advice on how to beat certain scenarios is virtually useless, just repeating the same advice over and over. Do you like the game and like to read? You should like the book. Perhaps the bashers don't like to read and wanted the answers simply listed in a Q&A style, I don't know. It helped me, it can help you, go ahead, get it. I would have given it 4 stars without the grammar errors.

No more than a fluffly manual,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: RollerCoaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
Prima's guide here covers both the original and expansion pack of RCT. A quick overview of this guide is no more than the original manual and a manual for Corkscrew Follies (which is not really included when you purchase the expansion) with some added fluff. For those that are looking for statistics, there are not many in this book. The pictures are a bit hard to see in some cases as they appear small and in grey-scale. However, there are *some* re-deeming qualities. There are actually a few good hints on queue lines, where to place entreances/exits, where to place shope and how to price items. There are some good building hints on underground rides and tunneling, but there are just as many common-sense things as well that you don't need any manual to figure out. However, like its name sake should indicate, there really isn't too much on actual roller coaster building. Lastly the Scenario Listing does give some hints on how to complete certain scenarios, but they are very vague, to the point its not that helpful.

Easy to use and very helpful,
This review is from: RollerCoaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
This book is very good (obviously) if you have the Rollercoaster Tycoon expansion pack. It is very easy to use and informational. Although if you are a rookie to this game, it won't be that helpful. This book goes over every scenario in the expansion version, going over the best ways to make the best out of your parks and roller coasters. All in all, this book is easy to use and informational, especially if you used to be like me; but now that I got this book, I'm winning this game, without draining the fun out of it.

Horrible Strategy Guide,
By
This review is from: RollerCoaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
This book is, without a doubt, the worst strategy guide that I have ever seen. The book doesn't offer anything that isn't already available in the user's manual that comes with the game. The author gave a very cursory overview of the general characteristics of the game. No insight was given into how the game specifically calculates all of those numbers found in the game (i.e., excitement, intensity, satisfaction, etc.) This book left a lot lacking. Save your money. Don't waste your time with this strategy guide.

A reiteration of the user's manuel,
By Margaret Kierum (College Station, Texas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: RollerCoaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
This book was written by someone who doesn't seem to be a player of the game. The book was vague and offered a lot of advice that anyone who tinkers with the game will learn on thier own. The game itself is very explanitory and this guide is not helpful. The author even devotes an entire chapter to how much different things cost, item by item. Prices are clearly marked in the game. Perhaps he had a minimum length he had to reach for the book?

I fully agree with hotrod4x5. This strategy guide does help you improve your rollercoaster if it's to intense for your guests. Another one is how to build better queues. The advice keeps repeating almost in every page one like you should never put food stalls near an intense ride. The rest is information you already know. This book helped hotrod4x5, it helped me, and it should help you. Go buy it!

Why?,

This review is from: RollerCoaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
When I first got this book, I thought to myself, "Cool, this is gonna really help me." As I read further into the book, I realized that there are many spelling errors and mistakes, some of them very obvious. It seems that many things were assumed and not checked when the book was written. This was not what I wanted, and I should of looked elsewhere to find better information on this game.

It's not worth it!,

I found this book to be worthless. I flipped through my friend's copy, and decided that I would never purchase it for myself. Everything the book says is information I already know!
