About Rollerblade
The world leader in the inline skate market, Rollerblade pioneered the inline skating boom by changing the perception of inline skates. Once seen strictly as an offseason training device for hockey players, inline skates are now a widely accepted lifestyle product that can be used by just about anyone, including professional athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and fun seekers of all ages. Rollerblade traces its history to 1980, when two hockey-playing Minnesota brothers discovered an inline skate while rummaging through a sporting goods store and decided that this design would make an ideal offseason training tool. They refined the skate and began assembling the first Rollerblade skates in the basement of their parents' home. Nordic and alpine skiers soon began integrating the skates into their own training regimes. In the ensuing years, the brothers used grassroots marketing tactics in such markets as Miami Beach, Florida; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Venice Beach, California to position inline skating as a new sport. Headquartered in West Lebanon, New Hampshire, Rollerblade is now an established brand, and continues to push the sport in new frontiers with innovative technologies and revolutionary marketing programs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Customer Service!!!!, September 4, 2010
This review is from: Rollerblade Men's Fusion X3 Urban Skate (Sports)
I bought these skates last April so, I've been using them for about 5 months for fitness skating. They are just the right mix of manuverability and stability for paths or parking lots. I like the hard boot design better than the soft boots I have had before. I do like these skates but, there are two things that will make me recommend either the Roller blade X5 or X7 skate instead of these.

First the strap that goes over the top of your foot is just a goofy design. The attachment rivet is offset from the center of the strap loop. So when you try to cinch it tight it pulls that strap to the side of the loop. It would take three paragraphs to explain this clearly but, frankly it's just a dumb design in my opinion. You cannot tighten the strap effectively the way it is made. This may not bother everyone but it did me. I ended up buying aftermarket buckle straps and putting them on (like the X5's have).

I had a more serious problem just occur. The axles have a square shoulder on one side that goes into a square hole in the frames so it doesn't turn when you tighten or loosen the screws when rotating your wheels. I went to remove the axle and the shoulder side spun rounding out the hole. Now I can't get the wheel off to rotate them. Essentially the frame is ruined.

I hope you're still reading this because this is the important part. I contacted Rollerblade by email too find out if this was covered under warranty, how to get the skates fixed etc. Got an email back from a guy named Will Meyer apologizing for the problem and that he was sending me replacement parts. I got the replacement parts in a few days and am back skating.

In my opinion this is outstanding customer service. I didn't have to jump through any hoops, return the skates through some retailer that I didn't buy them from and wait to find out if they were going to be fixed. Rollerblade's representatve Will just made things right immediately!

I am almost 50. I have had good customer sevice and I've had (more often) bad or mediocre customer service. You can't get better service that this. Thanks Will!

Both the problems I had would not exist on the X5 skates (has buckles and aluminum frames) so I would spend the extra bucks and get them. But, if you're buying these skates for a teenager that is going to outgrow them in 6 months or a year you may not see the problem I had with the frame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Blades of fire., October 9, 2010

The roller blades are great. I'm just getting back into skating since i was child, and these skates are perfect for that. They glide and are smooth where ever I go for the most part. I'm not into all the specs, so I can't give them to you, but trust the skate feels good on my foot. If you want to advance to a more adult skate, this might be the one for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars I would pass on these if I could do it over, May 9, 2011

This review is from: Rollerblade Men's Fusion X3 Urban Skate (Sports)
I bought these skates to replace a pair of Solomon's that I really liked. I really want to like these skates, but I just can't given a major design flaw and some other general issues. As another reviewer pointed out, there is a serious problem with the design of the top straps. A strip of leather, a few inches long and and inch or so high, is held in place on the top side of the boot with grommets. On the other end of this strip of leather is a rectangular metal "loop". A velcro strap from the other side of the boot comes across, goes through this metal "loop" and then is pulled back across the boot to tighten it around the shin. The problem is that, when pulling the top strap to tighten it, the metal "loop" flips sideways in the leather strap and it become absolutely impossible to cinch the belt tight. It is soooooo aggravating!!! The only things tightening the boot are the top velcro strap, a lower velcro strap that comes over the foot, and the laces. The problem is that the boot is semi-rigid, so it is very very very hard to get the boot tight enough using the velcro ans shoe strings. In addition, the holes in the leather where the grommets go are stretching and it seems like a matter of time before the leather straps simply pop off. The wheels/bearings are awesome and the skates are quick and agile. I just HATE the design features, and this severaly dampens my interest in skating. So, I'm on Amazon today to order a replacement pair and will just use the wheels/bearings from these as future replacements.

With all of the available competition out there, even within RB own lineup, I would steer clear of these, particularly for the relatively steep price. Don't buy the hype that there is something special about these things. The only thing unique about them seems to be the poor construction at this price point. Disappointing.
