5.0 out of 5 stars After 14 years, worth the wait, February 27, 2001

I remember watching this movie as a kid on TV and still enjoy watching it to this day. I learned about a month ago that the score was to be released and I immediately ordered it. The music by Lalo Schifrin is excellent. If you've seen the movie, the young man's music (One Track Mind it is called on the CD) is one of the most chilling pieces I've heard. It doesn't hide the fact it is from the 70's, but if you liked the movie or like orchestrated soundtrack music (as I do anyway), it is definitely worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rails Of Musical Terror, Courtesy Of Lalo Schifrin, December 7, 2001

Though overshadowed by equally talented giants like John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith, Lalo Schifrin is still one of Hollywood's finest film music composers. One of his best is this soundtrack to the shamefully underrated 1977 suspense thriller ROLLERCOASTER, which concerns itself with a civic inspector (George Segal) trying to stop a bomb-toting extortionist (Timothy Bottoms) from sabotaging amusement park rides.

Schifrin's score relies on a mix of carnival and ragtime amusement park tracks, jazz-rock fusion, and almost waltz-like rock. But the orchestral portions are a textbook case of building suspense and terror--string sections very reminiscent not only of Bernard Herrmann, but even of Stravinsky. Schifrin's own "String Quartette", one of the tracks here, serves as the main musical theme throughout the film.

Extremely well done, the ROLLERCOASTER soundtrack, long out of the public eye, has wisely been resurrected by Schifrin on his own Aleph Records label, along with his equally impressive score to THE OSTERMAN WEEKEND. Not to be missed.

I've always loved the OST to "Rollercoaster" and was thrilled to find it was available on CD.

IMHO Schifrin's score for this film is wildly unappreciated and instead it fits the film perfectly and unlike many 70's scores has not aged appreciably due to its timeless feel.

If you're a fan of the film or the score, I strongly urge you to purchase it!
