A Great Compilation!,
By Cale E. Reneau "audiooverflow.com" (Conroe, Texas United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Gold Compilation Pack (CD-ROM)
I have not bought the Gold Compilation, but I have bought all three games separately, and I can safely say that this is a great deal. Overall, I think I've spent about $90 on the game and two expansion packs, so this is much better.
The game itself is great. It makes the leap into the 3D realm flawlessly without sacrificing the gameplay that made the original RCT's so fantastic! All the quirky things from the original RCT3 have been fixed in these expansion packs, and the ability to make water parks and animal exhibits is great. Of course, don't get me started on the HUUUUUUGE assortment of flat rides and roller coasters. They are enough to keep you busy for hours. Unfortunately, the game is a huge strain on your computer system. I have a 1.6Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 128 GeForce FX Video Card, and still, the park gets really choppy as it grows to include more rides and people. I wouldn't buy this game unless your computer's specs are similar to mine. I previously played it on a 256MB computer with the same video card, and it was awful. So yes, the game does use up a lot of memory, but if you are lucky enough to have an above average computer, then you should have no problem running the game. Enjoy!

Endless fun until your PC runs out of memory,

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Gold Compilation Pack (CD-ROM)
RCT3 (I own the single disc versions) is one of the most addictive simulations especially for theme park afficionados.
Riding your own rides finally gave the game what it lacked until version 2. So, they combined all the best ideas from all those theme park simulations and put it in a (too?) big pot where you can help yourself - until your PC crashes. The game ist mostly stable but do not use too much particle effects like smoke, fog, fire and especially keep a low profile on these cool laser shows. When the laser shows run, your PC runs down (mine is a 3.2 GHz Intel machine with 2 GB RAM and a 256 MB ATI Radeon X600 graphics board, usually enough power for most of the games, but RCT3 obviously requires more to maintain the fun.) It's logical, though: the more details you add to a park, the more fun it is, but the faster you will find yourself with a frame-by-frame stop-and-go disaster and possibly at last with a frozen screen. Best advice: regularly save your game even if it takes some time. Anyway: I cannot remember having played more hours with a single game other than RCT3. And I am no longer a kid, but going on 50. It is BIG FUN!

A sequel worthy of the Rollercoaster Tycoon name,

I got this along with the expansion pack Wild and it is amazing. You can pretty much build any kind of park whether themed or not, and most if not all types of rides youd see at a carnival are in the game. The game includes 4 themes on top of the generic theme which basicly is not a theme at all(it can fit into any area of the park themed or not without the visitors complaining) The other themes are western, sci fi, adventure, and horror and they each contain a small amount of rides, shops, and animatronics which you can use to make a horror park(themed "moving" robotic scenary), though there are much more generic rides than themed so its much easier to just make a generic park.
all the old rides from the first game return and ,much ,much more. Not only this but you can ride them and it is actually a decent experience when you are riding them unlike in the old games Sim theme park and Sim Coaster. You finally can ride your own coasters! Not only this but you can add stuff like Shark attacks, dinosaur attacks, and volcano eruptions to be qued when whatever ride you want goes over a certain track segment. These animatronics can be used on most rollercoasters, water rides, and even monorails. There are plenty more rides including a new ride type called junior rides for the kids that are now in the game (in a group with their parents, everytype of person is grouped now and go on rides together usually)but there are almost TOO many rollercoasters, I am a completionist and when there are probably 60+ types of rollercoasters, tons of smaller rides, and I want to build a water park on top of this. This isn't like the previous game you can't research every ride and place them all for the most part you have to decide what you want before hand. Themed? Waterpark? Waterpark/amusementpark combo? Generic? or(in the case of the wild expansion pack)Zoo? With the expansion pack Soaked that is included in gold you also can build pools, a new aspect to the game. These can be pretty entertaining to build and the water affects are breathtaking. When you build a pool complex people charge to enter and the more complex you get (more pools and water rides in it) the more you can charge. Soaked also includes some new thrill rides and rollercoasters, and two new themes, neither have rides, or shops assosiated with them but just scenary. The new thrill rides are all under generic but most look like they could fit under some kind of theme so its surprising they arn't listed as such. For example there is an octopus ride, it isn't water based but it still looks like it could fit into the atlantis theme. A new rollercoaster that stands out is this one which people can ride and drop water on people below them, it is unique and looks like it would be fun in real life. You can now build waterfalls, jumping fountains, and water guns for people to use to squirt other people. There is also a new transport ride that can take people around the water without a track to multiple stations and dolphin and killer whale shows which are really entertaining and you can choreograph yourself, and even sink it with the new lasers and water jets you can use with the expansion pack on top of the fireworks. If you are looking for a sequel worthy of the rollercoaster tycoon name then you will not be disappointed, while this game doesn't make the original or 2nd (which was basicly the same as the first, what a rip off) obselete as they are fun in their own right and the way you manage your park in them is ever so slightly different it improves on them and goes into new grounds especially with the two expansion packs (one which you already have once you buy this)
