In 2004, Jamaican producer/label head Doctor Dread released the star-studded Is it Rolling Bob?: A Reggae Tribute to Bob Dylan. This follow-up effort features the same tracks remixed in the artful, afro-ambient voicings, loud loops, organ fills, spacey basslines, and brash sonic stabs that mark the dub genre. The vocals from this diverse group--from Gregory Isaacs's rub-a-dub version of "Hey Mr. Tambourine Man," and Toots Hibberts' hearty,"Maggie's Farm Dub" to Luciano's rough-and-ready "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"--are mostly pulsed in the mid-tempo meter. Overall, the Jamaicanized Dylan tracks are adequately translated. The arguable standout of this collection is "I and I," from Dylan's 1983 masterpiece, Infidels, with Sly & Robbie, guitarists Mark Knopfler and Mick Taylor, and Dylan's own vocals.
