This review is from: Rolling Breaks and Other Movie Business (Hardcover)
ROLLINGS BREAKS is a collection of Aljean Harmetz's articles from the late 60s into the early 80s when she worked as the Hollywood correspondent for the NY TIMES. The articles range from the chaos at Columbia--disfunctional would be an understatement--to profiles on Jack Nicholson, Jane Fonda, and Clint Eastwood. Those profiles in particular point out the strength and weakness of the collection. Harmetz concentrates heavily on their personal lives and relationships, creating the impression of a down to earthness with each. The modern reader, however, will know in each case that the stars have disgarded their spouses or partners mentioned long ago. By the time you get to the end of the book, it seems more like you are watching a movie in which each actor is playing a part and Harmetz unfailingly takes the bait. Still, for a historical look at the time period from 1967-1982 in Hollywood, not a bad book to read.
