I am a 25 year old law student, who because of the inspiration provided by this book has undertaken building his own "rolling home." All those with a bit of nomadic blood in them will wear this book out and become obsessed with dreams of building their own "home." Thoreau's cabin on Walden Pond may no longer be a reality today, but for just several thousand dollars and some hard work anyone can escape the confines of modern society and a mortgage. In pictures Lidz captures the spirit of those who live in handmade, "rolling homes" and the beauty of their creations.

I just got this book and i have already become obsessed with dreams of building my own Rolling Home this summer. The photographs are all very beautiful, and the book is also full of great drawings and diagrams. Not much text, but what's there is very well written. This book has inspired me to live my life in a whole new, fun way. This is definately worth buying!

I can't remember when I aquired Janes' little book but I've had it for a long time. I bought a '51 Chevy in '78 and have "remodelled" it several times. I managed to live in it for 8 years and "rented it out" for 3 more. Without a doubt, having a bus and continually re-creating it has changed my life. This book was my inspiration. It could change your life, too.

I have had this book on my shelves for thirty years and still love it. I traveled to Oregon to see the owner-builders of these housetrucks and have researched portable housing for more than five years after the inspiration provided by Rolling Homes.

It is a masterpiece from concept to completion

I have loved this book since I was a sweet young slip of a hippie chick, and I keep my well-thumbed copy close and secret from the masses. Still, I have long wanted to share all the wonderful photos and ideas with friends who are converting buses and trucks and other types of rolling homes. And now I can, because it's available again in cd form at [...] Pretty cool and groovy, huh?

I've been wanting to see this book for a while. I finally was able to get my hands on a copy through an interlibrary loan. This book is mostly pictures, fantastic pictures, but mostly pictures. I could have gone for some serious detail on how the houses were built: plumbing, electrical, etc. But that's not what this book is.... that's just what I was hoping for.

This book is chock full of pictures of a variety of different styles of homemade houses on wheels. There are ones build out of buses, small rigs and large trucks. Since this book was published in 1979 and these folks were using older vehicles to begin with, there are a lot of really stylish autos with homes built on them. There are some that showcase some incredible workmanship, and a few that are pretty cobbled together.

There is some detail on cost, construction, and layout. Obviously over 30 years later, the costs are SUPER outdated. I did like the diagrams of how some of the homes were laid out though. This bok doesn't show you how to do it yourself, but it sure does inspire you in that direction.
