I am a 25 year old law student, who because of the inspiration provided by this book has undertaken building his own "rolling home." All those with a bit of nomadic blood in them will wear this book out and become obsessed with dreams of building their own "home." Thoreau's cabin on Walden Pond may no longer be a reality today, but for just several thousand dollars and some hard work anyone can escape the confines of modern society and a mortgage. In pictures Lidz captures the spirit of those who live in handmade, "rolling homes" and the beauty of their creations.

I just got this book and i have already become obsessed with dreams of building my own Rolling Home this summer. The photographs are all very beautiful, and the book is also full of great drawings and diagrams. Not much text, but what's there is very well written. This book has inspired me to live my life in a whole new, fun way. This is definately worth buying!

I can't remember when I aquired Janes' little book but I've had it for a long time. I bought a '51 Chevy in '78 and have "remodelled" it several times. I managed to live in it for 8 years and "rented it out" for 3 more. Without a doubt, having a bus and continually re-creating it has changed my life. This book was my inspiration. It could change your life, too.

I have had this book on my shelves for thirty years and still love it. I traveled to Oregon to see the owner-builders of these housetrucks and have researched portable housing for more than five years after the inspiration provided by Rolling Homes.

It is a masterpiece from concept to completion

Being the owner/builder of one of these house trucks, I have to say that the purpose of this book wasn't to give you a step by step. It was to get your creative juices flowing. No one in this book had instructions- we all used those creative hippy powers that are so lacking in our current crazy world. (Mine is the one on the back cover- the gypsy caravan). I still have my original copy from the 70's with concept drawings on napkins stuffed inside. Drove this baby all the way to Vancouver Island from Santa Cruz (of course) California. Oh, the looks we got!

I have loved this book since I was a sweet young slip of a hippie chick, and I keep my well-thumbed copy close and secret from the masses. Still, I have long wanted to share all the wonderful photos and ideas with friends who are converting buses and trucks and other types of rolling homes. And now I can, because it's available again in cd form at [...] Pretty cool and groovy, huh?

this was one of my favorite books in the late 70s and i finally lost it after it was borrowed and not returned. Finally able to replace it with a great copy at a more than fair price especially since others had this book as high as $200. This was one of the original books of the Tiny home movement when we were called hippies
