My family loves dolmas, normally we make them with ground pork, rice, etc... I thought this might shave some time off preparation because rolling is always the most time consuming part. I received this in the mail and was excited to try it out. First as everyone else has pointed out, it's unbelievably cheap feeling, fragile plastic. First attempt I had it set at what I thought was the thickest setting, put a tablespoon of my meat/rice mixture, as it rolled all the meat squished out shredding the leaf and putting pork goo all over the roller. Ok, maybe I had the wrong thickness setting, put it all the way in the other direction and nope... even worse.

I tried a few more times with the same result, handed it to my daughter and asked her to go put it in the garbage.

This might work with dry ingredients making toothpick thick dolmas... but definitely not any kind of substantial filling.

I rarely leave negative reviews but I had to comment on this, it's been a long time since I've encountered anything this completely horrible.

This machine has a steep learning curve, but once you iron out the kinks, it works great. True, the material it is made out of is not the best quality but it made it through 4 jars of grape leafs with no major issues.
I found thickness level 2 worked best for rolling grape leaves with rice and meat stuffing.
A few tips:
1. I brushed olive oil on the conveyor belt to help it rather than margarine- worked great. If you sense that it is starting to struggle, just reapply more oil with brush
2. It will take 4-5 tries to get your technique down. I found that making a pouch with the conveyor belt and then sticking the grape leaf into the pouch/ trough that you created really helps. Start with less stuffing until you get a feel for it and then you can add more if desired. Don't place big chunks of meat or the roller will malfunction or spit them out.
3. Bigger leaves require you to roll a bit slower and with a bit more care, but as long as conveyor track is well oiled it works just fine
4. You may need to alter cooking time, as the roll is a bit tighter with machine than by hand and juices don't penetrate the grape leaf roll as easily.
5. Machine is very fast and efficient with uniform sized rolls once you master it. Having someone separate the leaves for you will allow you to really move along.
I have rolled many a grape Leaf by hand and my mom calls me the master, but I think with the machine I am 3-4 times a fast.
They were delicious!

This roller would be a lot better if it was sturdier. It rolls grape leaves easily if you get just the right amount of stuffing. If you put too much, the machine is likely to break (mine broke twice but I was able to pop the roller back in place). If you put too little, the rolls will be loose. Overall, it rolls grape leaves better than I can do by hand, so I will continue to use it.

The machine really works. What a pleasure to use. I had to figure out how to set it to the medium setting but I loved how it rolled the leaves in one size. After a few trial and error, I got tightly rolled leaves that looked great. Just be patient in the beginning. Once you get the hang of it, it is fun and convenient

i had so much fun rolling the grape leaves, it takes time to start, when you know how to do it it is fun. i'm glad i purchased the machine, it would be better if it was made with stainless steel and stronger belt, but it works.

glorious dolma machine.I just placed a leaf on the rubber compartment of the machine, put a tbps of mixture in the middle and with a single slide, there comes my dolma from the other side of the machine. The process was a breeze. It took me only 10 minutes to roll nearly 40 perfectly shaped dolmas. Also for stuffing cabbage leaves.
