Aptly called the "Pavarotti of the Plains" Mr. Walser defies all that is cliched about the modern American music business by starting an international recording and touring career upon his retirement at 65 years old from his job as a Texas state employee. Our only regret should be that he didn't start years sooner as we as an audience have been deprived of this wonderful singer and performer for too many years. But the wait was worth it as this guy is a powerhouse singer of peculiarly American tunes and vocal styles. He is also a major artist. Buy everything he does. No one sings with more smooth masculinity and insight than Don Walser!

Whether country-swing or just good ol'fashioned yodeling, Don Walser can do it all. Reminiscent of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, it's really country's loss that Don is so-late "discovered". Want a taste of Blue Grass or heart-wrenching country, this album provides it all.

We Texans are a mixed-up lot; sometimes we just don't have our priorities straight. In this Great State we will MOVE HEAVEN AND EARTH to preserve the (sometimes perverse) spectacle of High School Football but do next to nothing to preserve the historical, cultural and literary traditions of our state, (and we won't even mention the wholesale ignorance of Texas' rich Hispanic heritage). Don Walser is a cultural treasure of our state and his recordings are keeping alive a beautiful Texas musical tradition. If you're not familiar with old fashioned Texas crooning, you're in for a treat.

I'm afraid I'm just getting on the Don Walser wagon. If you got to see Second Hand Lion, In the closing credits they played Rolling Stone From Texas. I loved this Movie & was sure this would be on the Soundtract CD, But no. So now I own the Don Walser Cd. A great collection of country swing & old favorites. A very great cover of Don't Worry & That's Why I'm Walkin'. A great voice & wonderful Yodeling. Keep playing & singing Don. It's great. Jerry From Texas

This album, along with many, many others are descendants of Bob Willis and the Texas Playboys, among others, who were themselves descendants of "Pickers" who honed their music and their identity in the woods, plains, and lowlands of the South. It's not just a musical genre, it a way of life. Keep listening, Mary from New York, we've always been here.

Buy it. Listen. After hearing this wonderful man sing "Cowpoke", you'll be haunted forever by the sheer beauty of his voice. And if you're not in tears or in love by the end of "I'll Hold You In My Heart ('Til I Can Hold You In My Arms)" then I'm sorry for you, my friend.

Cherish the man and his music.

His yodell, high pitched voice and down home attitude speak to me.

He wasn't pretty, he wasn't young but his voice and

choice of material were other worldly. You want to dance

and or drink beer and go to Texas.
