The Bible for Artist Models,
By Renee Gilbert (Warren, Indiana USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rollover, Mona Lisa!: How Anyone Can Model for Artists (Paperback)
I have been an artist model for three years. Recently somebody trashed me out for doing my job. Reading Theresa Danna's book boosted up my morale and made me hold my head up high. Now I have the verbal weapons to defend myself against such ignorant people.

The Bare Facts of Modeling for Artists,
By voxmarcus@aol.com (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rollover, Mona Lisa!: How Anyone Can Model for Artists (Paperback)
In ROLLOVER, MONA LISA, subtitled "How Anyone Can Model for Artists," the author calls upon her years as a professional nude artist's model to demystify the profession to aspiring models. One of the best sections deals with Cleo Dornan whose modeling career spanned decades! Included with the 60 illustrated pages are biographies of a number of famous models throughout history. This is a fast, fun read, especially if you have an interest in the arts and entertain either curiosity or fantasy about actually becoming a nude artist's model. Read it -- you'll like it!

ROLLOVER, MONA LISA!,
By Steve Kessler (Southeastern United States) - See all my reviews

As a 56 year old life model, I can't thank Ms. Danna enough for putting in words what we all face as we try to provide value for artists, art instructors and, most importantly, art students. During one session this past week, I was confronted with a "Model Code of Behavior" that mirrored many of Ms. Danna's thoughts presented in her book. I highly recommend Ms. Danna's book to both aspiring models and life drawing and painting art instructors. Bravo, Theresa!

THE guide to working as a figure model (5-stars+++),
By A Customer
This review is from: Rollover, Mona Lisa!: How Anyone Can Model for Artists (Paperback)
Don't let one person's negative review sway you; I've modeled for art classes since 1984; this book can make a fun job even better. I suppose the one negative remark so far was by a: 1) jealous wannabe; 2) a religious fundamentalist aghast at such a job; or, 3) the author of a competing book (I'm aware of none.) By the way... I notice he/she chooses toi remain anonymous! Get this book and get to work, especially you guys! The art world needs you!!!

Theresa did a great job of capturing the essence of modeling,

Both my wife and I have been figure models for years but Theresa was the first person we have read that captured the essence of the experience. You become integral to the creative process and are much appreciated by the serious student, teacher and artist. It is extremely gratifying to be captured in an artistic medium through someone else's eyes. When we have a (rare) poor experience with a class or artist, a quick read of Theresa's work gets us energized again. She knows first hand of the heart and soul of artists and their models and expertly described it. Many thanks, Theresa.

Needs fewer magazine excerpts and more personal anecdotes,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rollover, Mona Lisa!: How Anyone Can Model for Artists (Paperback)
I was disappointed with this little book, which is just 57 pages long. The first 22 pages provide some advice for would-be models, but very little about the author's own experiences as a model. The remaining 35 pages contain tidbits about the history of art modeling and about some famous models, but all of this information seems to be excerpts from various books and magazines, such as Art In America and Smithsonian. For the next edition, if there is one, I think the author should make the book more of a first-person account of what it's like to model for artists, and include lots of interesting anecdotes about her own experiences and those of other models she knows.
