I got this because I wanted to be able to plug multiple sets of headphones into one audio source without losing sound quality (as would happen if you just used a splitter plug). I chose this over the [apparently more popular] Boostaroo because this has separate volume controls for each headphone output (the Boostaroo is smaller, though). The Rolls HA204 works great, and as advertised amplifies the volume significantly if you desire (you can control the volume level).

I was also pleasantly surprised by something else... My headphones sounded better when plugged into the Rolls HA204 than when directly plugged into my laptop! It wasn't a night and day difference, but bass sounded punchier and the overall sound was more 3-dimensional.

SAFETY TIP: If you're in a loud place and using the amplifier to hear your music over noise, put in earplugs and then put on your headphones. That way you can still get a decent music-to-noise ratio without damaging your hearing.

By the way, if you want great $20 headphones with good bass, try the Koss KTX-1 Pro's. I like listening to audio books at work. Before I bought this product I was plugging my headphones directly into my computer tower. The sound quality was awful, full of background static. The Rolls HA204 makes listening to my computer like listening to my iPod - crystal clear! In addition, I hear perfectly keeping my volume level on the lower end. The cable that comes with the product required a 3.5mm stereo phone plug to two phono RCA jacks in order for me to connect the device to my computer; but, a mere $3 later I have quality sound piping into my ears as I type away on my computer at work.

Right now I am testing the 9-V battery life before I buy an AC adapter.

This thing is awesome. I am very impressed with it. I would recommend everyone to buy this over the boostaroo. It is not as small as the boostaroo but it proforms much better.
