Is keeping the laptop cool.

I started having neck problems, and this has helped because the screen is now higher, and it is easier for me to type on the keyboard.

This is a great inexpensive solution for a laptop stand. It is very sturdy with the mesh type bottom allowing good circulation and heat dissipation. The stand adjusts to several different angles, although the lowest one seems most useful. The only real negative I see is that if you use an Apple notebook, one of the front supports is directly in line with the CD/DVD insert slot. You have to move the notebook for disc insertion or ejection.

The bomb! I have been using it for 3 years, 18 video hours a day with a very hot AMD processor. (HP pavillion dv2000's run really hot.) My cpu is at 83C (181F) right now and happy as a clam running Windows 7.

I like this stand because it has a wire mesh bottom which is hard to find. The only reason other stands need added fans is because their solid bottom insulates the notebook and blocks the internal fans! Gimme a break.

The only thing I don't like is that it is too heavy for frequent traveling. You can collapse it and put it on your lap but its a little clunky for even that. It is really meant for full time tabletop use.

I watch TV and surf the internet in bed with this sitting on a table in front of me. It raises the notebook to a nice height for video watching.

It would survive being dropped from a plane too!

This is an excellent laptop stand. I got the same one at wal-mart only it was branded by rubbermaid office solutions. In all other aspects, physical, cosmetic and functional it is identical. It even comes with rolodex branded instructions. So if you see this at wal-mart, it is indeed the same product. It also takes the same usb or power adapter accessories that fit into the back of the stand. I paid a bit less at wal-mart for it.

The build quality of the stand is fantastic. It is extremely sturdy. It's made of thick metal with mesh where the laptop sits for better ventilation. The bar that elevates the laptop platform is very thick gauge and will not distort easily. When elevating the laptop platform, the support bar fits very tightly into notches on the bottom of the platform. There are 5 positions including the flat position, which I find the best for general use. It puts the laptop at a perfect angle for typing and viewing of the screen without killing your back.

On the bottom are 4 dense foam rubber pads. These protect your desktop (or in my case, my coffee table) from scratches that would otherwise occur. There are two thick metal tabs on the front of the stand that hold the laptop in place and prevent it from sliding off the stand. These also have the foam rubber pads. Those, combined with most laptops' rubber feet of their own, make for a very stable, solid work surface. Note that the two tabs are on the far left and right sides of the stand so some laptops, like HP Pavilions, that have their microphone and headphone ports on one of the far edges will have their ports blocked. So make sure you either have a laptop with side or middle-front ports (like my Dell Inspiron 1525), or that you don't use those ports and it doesn't matter to you that they'll be blocked.

Adjustable, very sturdy and gives the laptop good ventilation. Can't beat it for the price. The cord keeper on the back makes it so that the power cord/usb hub cords don't fall off the back. Awesome.

UPDATE: Keep in mind when reading this that it is based on a late 2006 model 17" MacBook Pro. More recent models can open wider and will probably work just fine with this stand. This original review was written in 2008 when that was not the case.

I bought this for my 17" MacBook Pro. I currently use a Griffin Elevator at home and I wanted something to use in the office. This looked like a nice stand for a great price. It is a nice stand but does not work for my MacBook Pro at all.

1) The stand is sturdy and should hold just about any laptop with ease.
2) The mesh is nice if your laptop needs ventilation.
3) The design of this stand is that the front of your laptop sits low while the rear end tilts up at an angle. This puts the display at a much higher location than normal, thus keeping you from bending your neck to view your screen. The problem is that when the base of your laptop is placed at this angle your display needs to tilt back VERY FAR in order for it to be vertical. My display did not open wide enough and so when I place it on this stand the display is tilting forward and thus is harder to read than if it were just sitting on the desk.

I'm sure this works very well with laptops that open wider than mine which is why I gave it 3 stars. However, I couldn't give it more because it is unusable with my machine (and many others like it).

This is a STURDY metal laptop stand. The mesh provides excellent cooling capabilities. As described, it has several settings and adjusts from 12 to 36 degrees. I was slightly concerned about it being made of metal, but found that there are four pads on the underside of it to prevent scratches to your desktop. There are two similar pads on the top, which provides a soft bumper for your laptop. However I purchased some clear self-adhesive silicone "polybumpers" to provide a little more protection ([...] I have a 17" MacBook Pro and it fits nicely on this stand. The stand sits firmly on the desk unless you want to move it, and the laptop fits snugly in the stand.

This is not a "lap" stand in my opinion. I use a "Lapinator" for when I want to use my laptop on the couch.
