A Must Have for Laptops!,
By
This review is from: Rolodex 82444 Laptop Stand, Adjustable, Ventilated, Cord Organizer, Supports 15-Lbs. (Office Product)
I research everything I buy, and I knew one thing for sure- laptops need good ventilation for a long lifespan. I also didn't want air blowing into my laptop via other laptop stands. After all, my laptop is already equipped with it's own fan. Why risk blowing dust and other undesirable things into the system? You also don't want to waste your time with a solid plastic stand that covers the vent holes. There are way too many of those on the market. Amazingly, this beautiful stand is next to impossible to find in stores. I found a similar one a couple of years ago, but have since passed it on to my daughter with the laptop she also inherited. When I upgraded, I upgraded stands as well, and could only find this on Amazon.com. This is perfect. Great construction. I have a 17" Laptop that fit's great on it. Everything stays nice and cool. It is also visually appealing, and keeps things at a comfortable typing level. I would recommend this to anyone with a laptop.

NOT for widescreen laptops ...15 Inch and under will work best.,

If your considering this for a small to medium size laptop, it's perfect. But if you have a widescreen 17 inch ... forget it. My 17 Inch Toshiba Satellite hangs over the edges far too much. I had to add to it to make it fit (luckily I work in metal). However, it can almost hold the weight specified (don't place more than 12 pounds on it or it begins to bend) and it is useful for adjusting to the proper angle and the built in cord organizer is wonderful. You will need to place it on a desk, as it will NOT work on your lap. If you want one that is more portable go elsewhere. Metal-work could be better and a bit more sturdy. I added braces to mine to make it hold up better. I would actually rate this at 2.5 Stars ...

Pros:
Expanded metal screening makes for good air circulation and nice looks. Adjustable height. Cord organizer. Front center buttons on laptop are accessable with this stand. Cons: A little wobbly and uneven when sitting on the desk or counter. Although it does not appear to have any bends or warps in it, it just doesn't sit quite flat or level. It isn't terrible, but is noticable when you touch the laptop or stand.

Same stand at Wal-mart,

I've been looking at all the laptop stands that Amazon has to offer. I've read alot of reviews and learned a few things. One thing I learned was that Rolodex and Rubbermaid both make this same style stand. I found the Rubbermaid stand at Wal-mart and the directions say Rolodex. Now here's the best thing, the same stand at Wal-mart was $15.96 = tax. The only differance was the color is silver. This is a great stand and it's very sturdy. I hope this is helpful. I often have my laptop on the coffee table in the livingroom. This means I can get work done while I watch TV. I used to be hunched over with my arms extended way too much, trying to type on the keyboard. It was so uncomfortable, I tended to put off using it.
Solution: This laptop stand is quite sturdy and puts the keyboard at a much more comfortable angle for typing and screen-viewing. It also allows great airflow, which is good for the laptop. I'm not able to take advantage of the cable-organizer built into the back because I move my laptop around too much, but for someone with a stable location, this is a real benefit. Folds up and fits into my laptop case. Very happy.

I have a 17" widescreen laptop, and this stand supports it easily, although the edges of the computer stick out an inch or two on either side. The metal frame feels sturdily constructed, and was well packaged with styrofoam blocks to protect it. It does a great job allowing air to circulate, and I noticed an immediate decrease in fan noise from my computer when I placed it on the stand. The stand does not significantly wobble during use. Despite the lack of rubber grips or other similar features on the stand, once the computer is situated, it stays in place (side to side) pretty well. The two metal plates at the bottom of stand are sufficient for keeping the laptop from sliding downward, as well. The bottom supports of the stand are smooth enough that you can slide it around on a desk without scratching the wood. However, the laptop is not secure enough on the stand is not secure enough to allow you to safely carry the stand/laptop combination around together.
My only complaint is that the minimum incline of the stand is not 0 degrees, but more like 20 degrees. This means your keyboard cannot be horizontal, which may be a problem for some. Since I usually employ an external keyboard and mouse, I don't mind.

Good w/ 1 minor problem,

The stand is well built and effective in elevating my laptop (13" Dell XPS) to eye level. (One side note more directed to xps users--at the top level the xps screen cannot stretch far back enough to become perpendicular w/ the table.)
One small issue--there are cylindrical pads on the bottom front, and the maker has attached these w/ some sort of rubber cement. Unfortunately, the pads move around exposing the cement which adheres to the table. The gummy residue can be wiped off with soap & water, and I'm expecting after some time the glue will run out. You could probably take off the stoppers and wipe the glue off the base if you were so inclined. |
