The Roman Hat or How to Die of Boredom,

This review is from: Roman Hat Mystery (Paperback)
This book, the first of the Ellery Queen mysteries (published by various writers) portrays Ellery, the son of the police inspector, as a combination of Oscar Wilde and Lord Peter Wimsey. It is a police procedural complete with cringing criminals, saucy tarts speaking mob slang, and the beautiful heiress who faints during interrogation. The solution is mailed in from Ellery to his father while the former is off on vacation with friends. At the time it came out, it might have been more interesting, but to a modern, jaded mystery reader, it was pretty dull. Its historic value outweighed its read. |
