Book Description

January 22, 2007
The only official tie-in book to the new United Artists film written and directed by award-winner John Turturro (Barton Fink, O Brother, Where Art Thou), a "savage musical," starring James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon, and Kate Winslet.

Romance & Cigarettes is a down-and-dirty musical love story. Nick (Gandolfini), a New York ironworker is married to Kitty (Sarandon), a strong but gentle woman with whom he has three grown daughters. He is secretly carrying on a torrid affair with the flame-haired Tula (Winslet). When his wife catches him and Tula wants a commitment, Nick finds himself a prisoner of his primal urges. A good man at heart, he must find his way back to his family before he runs out of chances.

Part Charles Bukowski, part "Honeymooners," Romance & Cigarettes is like nothing you've ever seen before. This romantic adventure features music from Engelbert Humperdinck, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Jones, Buena Vista Social Club, Janis Joplin, and James Brown. When the characters can no longer express themselves with language, they break into song, singing along with the tunes lodged in their subconscious.

The all-star cast also includes Steve Buscemi, Bobby Cannavale, Mandy Moore, Mary-Louise Parker, Aida Turturro, and Christopher Walken.

The Newmarket Shooting Script® book features the complete original screenplay, including the movie's song lyrics, an introduction by writer/director Turturro, a color photo section, as well as complete cast and crew credits.
