5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoy This Slice of America's Quilting History
This book is a classic in quilt history. First published in 1935 it reflects the romance of the Colonial Revival. Enjoy this book for the charm of yesteryear. The language is flowery and the history is not completely accurate, more the idealized version of history typical of the period. The original pictures are black and white. Enjoy it for what it is, a delightful...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting to read!
This is a fairly decent book, a good bit of quilting history and a must if you have a large library and are interested in quilting. There are, however, no patterns, and it's mostly just for reference. The pictures are black and white, but there are some wonderful quilts featured. Good book for a quilting history buff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Identifying Quilt Patterns, January 21, 2011
This review is from: The Romance of the Patchwork Quilt In America (Hardcover)
The main part of the book is page after page showing full quilts and giving the name of the pattern. Although it's in black and white, it serves well to help you identify the pattern of an old quilt. There is also 80 pages showing quilt patches (about 15 or 20 to a page). The book is indexed, so if you know the name of a pattern, you can find the picture in the book. There's a variety of quilt history, some poems and quilting designs in the book too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The romance of the patchwork quilt, December 26, 2011

This is truly an inspirational book, especially if you are a quilter. When I started many years ago, it seemed to be a dying art...it's not. There is a huge community of quilters out there! It is so interesting to learn the history. I was amazed to find out how many men were quilters and in fact, some of the most amazing quilts that I have seen were made by men. Women were truly the backbone of our family history, and reading this history has made me proud to be a woman and a quilter.
