5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Coming of Age Story
I just loved Julie Cannon's novel. Repressed fifteen year-old Tammi Lynn Elco discovers her sexuality and deep-seated yearnings through a romance reading book club. An engrossing and funny read that I'm passing on to friends. Cannon knows her South and every word rings true.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I was disappointed in this book. I loved her other books so much. This one I felt was lacking a plot. I kept looking for a purpose in what the characters were doing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast read characters were great, loved it!!, June 7, 2008
This review is from: The Romance Readers' Book Club (Paperback)
I loved this book I thought it may be a little young for me when I picked it up & read the back cover but quickly got immersed in the charachters and coming of age story ,It brought me back to when I was a teen and fantasized about romance and lust but so many of us especially us girls were to afraid or ashamed to admit it to anyone and what an active imagination the main character has and so did we all....highly recomended

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner!, January 7, 2008
This review is from: The Romance Readers' Book Club (Paperback)
Cannon's Romance Reader's Book Club is as engaging as it is endearing.
Tammi Lyn Elco's journey to fulfillment is laced with all the elements that makes good fiction great: memorable characters, a sumptious (southern)setting, conflict that grabs the heart, and a resolution that won't let go of it. Don't miss it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book by a fine and gifted writer, January 7, 2008
This review is from: The Romance Readers' Book Club (Paperback)

I've read all of Julie Cannon's books and she gets better and better. Not that she wasn't GREAT with the first one.
But Romance Readers was a fantastic read, beautifully written and woven with truth and realistic characters.
Loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannon's Newest Book Offers a Departure, March 12, 2008
This review is from: The Romance Readers' Book Club (Paperback)
Oconee County author Julie Cannon offers another Southern novel populated with authentic characters. She shows great wit and talent as she offers an entertaining read. Though she does have periodic passages from romance novels in this book (all written by the author), Cannon includes this material to prove a point: We are greatly influenced by what we read. Overall, Cannon does an excellent job and her fans will not be disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didnt go anywhere, April 25, 2008
This review is from: The Romance Readers' Book Club (Paperback)
I read this book because the back cover promised something I thought I would enjoy. The author is a good writer, but she cannot write a plot! I felt like there was no real direction throughout the book, and I kept on reading, thinking, surely something will come up. Furthermore, the author is not very consistent with her characters, in the beginning Orr was a main character, but he practically disappears a fourth of the way into the book! It kind feels like the author had a lot of ideas on where to go with this book and couldnt decide on one, so she threw them all in there. The ending was terrible as well- what happens?! There are just too many loose ends the author never ties up. Also, was this supposed to be a religious novel, or an antireligioug novel? I never could tell...

Bottom line, good writer, terrible book

1.0 out of 5 stars sinfully bad, June 3, 2009

This book had no purpose! Basically, the main character (Tammi's) grandmother thinks it is a horrible sin to read romance novels & they are forbidden, which makes Tammi want to read them even more. So, she creates a secret book club with her aunt, and 2 friends. Then, the town blames the sinners for the drought they're in, so Tammi and her book club re-think the whole book club idea! This book was all about sinful earthly pleasures & preaching ... do NOT read this! ANd she was in love with cousin!
