Creme Always Rises to the Top, September 4, 2001
This review is from: Romance Serenade (Audio CD)
Dale Fielder is slowing but surely inching his way into the realm of greatness, not just as a performer but a marvelous composer.these compositions represent the maturity, perserverance and courage it takes to hang-in, when all others tend to compromise the artform by homogenizing their music for money. Not Dale, he has taken the acid test and passed with flying colors and is on his way to the ranks of saxophonists like John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter and Joe Henderson. that rare breed, where you're only limited by short sightness and blinded by dreams of big bucks.
Romance captures all the essence of a classic miles or Cannonball Addeley, with a spike of Trane.
His Choice of sidemen has a lot to do with it as well. legendary
former Mingus piano player, Jane Getz(No Relation)Thomas White ,drums; Trevor Ware, Bass, makes for great team or family if you will. They bring a certan element that is missing from some of today's so call jazz artist, when it comes to passion for their craft.
All of the songs recorded on Blueport by Fieder here could easily be considered for best song by a jazz performer, but we know that is not possible wihout the real jazz fans stepping forward and protesting the way jazz is treated these days.
Fielder's next project promises to bigger and better than ROMANCE SERENADE, if that's possible...?
