optime! magister,
By Audax Minor (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ecce Romani, Level 1B (Student Manual/Study Guide) (Paperback)
This is the way to learn Latin! You can forget about Wheelock and memorizing sets of inflections; this text is readings-based and intuitive. Take a look at the Latin lesson scene from The Life of Brian to see a perfect put-down of the old teaching methods that terrorized schoolchildren for aeons. This text represents humane humanism.

Beginner's Luck in Latin,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ecce Romani, Level 1B (Student Manual/Study Guide) (Paperback)
This book and series is first rate. It follows the exploits of a fictional Roman family. In doing so, it quickly imparts a basic reading facility in Latin. New vocabulary flows easily with this approach. The artwork and drawings bring the stories of this Roman family to life, and the book is printed on durable, heavy weight paper. The book never bores. Unlike most Latin readers, it does not start off with page-after-page of mind-numbing grammatical rules. A big advance in form and content over the amo, amas, amat drills of yesteryear.
