5.0 out of 5 stars In depth and persuasive look at Romania's Marshall Antonescu, October 8, 2007

This review is from: Romanian Cassandra (Hardcover)
This is bar none the best book written on the enigma that is Marshall Ion Antonescu. Watts, who now works for the Romanian government, gained access to previously unavailable archives after the Romanian revolution as well as Romanian; furthermore, he raided English, German, U.S. and French archives to complete the only available historical portrait of the Marshall before 1941, while also writing one the few books that manages to "rescue" Antonescu from Western dogmatic readings that had been based mostly on falsified information by Romania's Communist Party.

Anyone who cares about the truth, and wants to understand the struggles of a small nation when tossed around by major political currents, would do well to acquaint himself or herself with this work.
