The photographs are spectacular, the artisans and their work are beautifully portrayed. You'll especially appreciate the bits of geography and history that educate the reader about a breathtaking country. We adopted a little boy from the Transylvania region in August. This book is such a wonderful keepsake for him... and reminds us why we want to return with all the kids someday. This book should also be marketed through adoption websites: Rainbowkids, and Eastern European Adoption Coalition... it would sell!

This book is full of beautiful photos of all kinds of folk art in their natural settings (which probably look pretty exotic to many Americans), together with excellent background text. I would give this book a great review even if I hadn't been a member of Karsten's Peace Corps group in Romania. Since I was, it evokes even more happy memories to go with the painted eggs, icons, embroidery and pottery that I brought home with me. I've given copies to all my friends in Romania, and they all give it "cinci stele" (five stars) too! |
