If you've ever seen John Vanderslice in concert, you will know what an affable, considerate and accommodating person he is...hanging out after the show, signing autographs and just showing sincere appreciation for his fans. This album is his greatest gift to those fans, a highlight reel of perfectly haunting and gentle songs, dream-like lyrics and experimental sound effects.I find this record satisfying, in the way a crafty novel is dovetailed...or a sublime meal is presented in small courses. Vanderslice takes time to visit a plethora of emotional corners, showing versatility and guts in his songwriting and instrumentation. As in concert, his band deserves a ton of credit for creating the theatrics underlying the lyrical dialogue. This is a painting you can stare at for many, many days....don't miss it!

but not bad either. JV is solid and I recommend most of his music, but if you're a JV 'rookie', I wouldn't start here.

Vanderslice pumped out a honey of an album here. Its a wonderful, mellow set of tracks that I just love. He really deserves more play.
