I dislike adding to the glut of 5-star ratings, but with Kalyi Jag, I have to. They play slightly modernized (through the addition of guitar and other acoustic instruments) but traditional Hungarian Gypsy music. Deep, soulfelt vocals and masturful instrumentals, including unique percussion (eg on milk jugs) that are catchy enough to make this exciting even to listeners completely unfamiliar with the style. Consisting of songs Gypsies performed for their own pleasure, rather than for other Hungarians, their music is more vocally driven and visceral than the traditional Hungarian music performed by groups such as Muzsikas. Grab any of their other four albums if you can find them; the quality and style is consistent.
