Book Description

July 5, 2005
Who wrote the book of love...and what the hell were they thinking???

When nothing else seems to be going right in life, people should always have their friends to lean on. Meet:

Lucy-hopelessly romantic, and hopelessly confused

Meg-a career girl with cat claws

Chloe-cute, caring, and an utter doormat

Tom-loves Lucy...but loves being single, too

Percy-too polite and proper for his own good

Together, they find themselves dealing with the rigors of modern life, such as psychotic potential roommates, lethally hideous window treatments, pet hams, mistaken identities, prehistoric plastic bath toys, boyfriends-turned-friends-turned-boyfriends, and the eternal question:

Is true love fact, fiction, or something in between?

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Lucy is a hopeless romantic. Tom loves Lucy but can't bear to commit. Meg is a career woman who never lets down her guard. Chloe is lovably gullible. Percy, the reserved Brit, has a crush but can't admit it. These friends share the ups and downs of dating, work, and the oddities of life. Sound familiar? The fivesome at the center of this novel is sure to remind readers of their favorite sitcom, Friends; just trade the New York coffeehouse for an Australian pub. Although the book's concept isn't original, the story is sweet and funny, and the characters are (mostly) appealing. La'Brooy does lose some focus when she strays from the story of the relationship between Lucy and Tom, but readers will forgive her once they get to the happy ending. Despite the sometimes-scattered plot, this lighthearted romance will appeal to readers looking for a fun and lively read. Aleksandra Kostovski

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Beach Book!, February 13, 2010

A lighthearted read! This book is great for one of those relaxing no-thinking days. The characters are refreshing and although at times the storyline is unlikely, it is entertaining to read. If you like rich characters, then you will enjoy this book. As for the comparison of being like the television show "friends" I can see some resemblance, in the sense of absolutely ridiculous situations that the characters seem to put themselves in. Enjoy and I would read another book from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars, December 15, 2008
This review is from: Romantic Fiction (Paperback)
I LOVED this story. Didn't want it to end.

There were a few problems with the writing, which kept it from being 5 stars, but the story and the voice were great.

Romantic Fiction is set in Melbourne, Australia, which is unusual. The blurb on the front compares it to the TV show Friends, but in my opinion, the characters in the show were much more self-absorbed and shallow than these characters.

Just a warning--there's blatant promiscuity in this one.

It's mostly about a group of friends: Lucy, Meg, Chloe, Tom, who's Lucy's on-again-off-again boyfriend, but always best friend, and Percy, who fell head-over-heels with Meg and just sort of stuck around.

3.0 out of 5 stars friends or not?, July 13, 2005
By
This review is from: Romantic Fiction (Paperback)
This book wasn't the best in bunch but it was enjoyable.
Some parts had me cracking up =), while others left me wanting to put the book down.
It was like that the whole way through. It would get good then it would get boring and I'd stop.
